Job Summary

Southwire's CableTechSupport Services Engineering team plays a mission-critical role in supporting the rapid growth of residential, commercial, industrial, OEM, and utility markets across North America and globally. Operating under the Re mission-Respond, Rectify, and Restore electrical systems with Reinforced, Resilient, and Reliable solutions-the CableTechSupport Services group delivers best-in-class technical consultation, field support, and service innovation.

We are seeking a visionary Director of CableTechSupport Services Engineering to lead the strategic direction, execution, and expansion of Southwire's technical services and solutions. This role will oversee a high-performing team of engineers, drive innovation across emerging vertical markets, and serve as a key technical advisor to internal stakeholders and external partners. The ideal candidate will bring deep industry expertise, a strong commercial mindset, and a proven ability to scale engineering capabilities that directly impact business growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the applications engineering strategy to support Southwire's growth across data centers, renewable energy, EV infrastructure, telecom/5G, mass transit, mining, and other industrial verticals.
  • Team Development & Performance: Lead, mentor, and grow a multidisciplinary engineering team. Align individual and team goals with company-wide objectives, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and technical excellence.
  • Customer-Centric Innovation: Translate customer pain points into engineering requirements for new products, tools, and services. Guide the Stage-Gate process with insights on product features, code compliance, and long-term performance.
  • Technical Oversight: Review complex AC/DC electrical system designs and connectivity to ensure optimal installation practices, hands-on solutions, and field testing protocols.
  • Service Portfolio Expansion: Launch and scale service offerings such as cable repair kits, nitrogen purging, labor-saving estimators, and diagnostic tools that enhance customer experience and field efficiency.
  • Content & Knowledge Leadership: Oversee the development of technical reference materials, calculators, and whitepapers. Ensure Southwire's CableTechSupport platform remains a trusted resource for customers and partners.
  • Proposal & Bid Strategy: Lead technical responses for RFIs, RFQs, and bid proposals, especially for strategic and government-funded infrastructure projects.
  • Industry Influence: Represent Southwire in codes and standards development forums. Drive specification adoption and regulatory alignment across key markets.
  • Brand & Thought Leadership: Elevate Southwire's technical brand through webinars, publications, keynote speaking engagements, and strategic partnerships.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product Management, Sales, Operations, and Marketing to align engineering initiatives with business priorities and market opportunities.
Required Education & Experience

Bachelor's Degree

Specialized Degree:  Electrical Engineering or related field

8-11 Years of Experience

Field(s) of Expertise: 

  • Electrical Engineering; application support and/or product engineering experience in the Wire and Cable, Power, Utility, Manufacturing, or Electrical Industry is required
  • 12+ years of experience in wire and cable applications, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of leading engineering teams and delivering scalable technical solutions.
  • Deep understanding of global electrical codes and standards (NEC/NFPA, UL, IEEE, IEC, etc.).
  • Strong strategic thinking, business acumen, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience working across diverse industries and global markets.
Preferred Education & Experience

Master's degree

Specialized Degree:  Electrical Engineering or related field

12-14 Years of Experience

Field(s) of Expertise: 

  • Experience with connectorized cable systems and medium-voltage applications.
  • Certifications such as PE, PMP, or Six Sigma.
    Proficiency in engineering software (FEA, Cymcap, AutoCAD, MATLAB, ETAP, etc.).
  • Familiarity with CRM ticketing systems and technical service platforms.
  • Demonstrated success in technical content creation and public speaking.
