Job Summary:
The Tennis Instructor teaches tennis to members at all skill levels--from beginners to advanced players. In addition to lessons, the instructor may assist with pro shop operations and facility management.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in developing facility operations manuals, policies, and procedures.
  • Report incidents or accidents to Director of Recreation
  • Maintain monthly inventory of tennis supplies, equipment, and products and submits any needs to Director of Recreation.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training to understand services, products, and programs.
  • Provide excellent customer service; monitor guest feedback and follow up on requests.
  • Ensure facility access is limited to members and authorized guests
  • Maintain deep knowledge of tennis game intricacies.
  • Patrol and maintain cleanliness of courts and surrounding areas regularly.
  • Manage court reservation system to ensure smooth traffic flow.
  • Provide instructional services: private/semi-private lessons, small groups, clinics, team coaching, tactics, and strategy.
  • Assist in coordinating social and competitive events, including tournaments.
  • Implement tennis programs for adults and juniors.
  • Submit programming schedules to Director of Recreation in a timely manner
  • Attend staff and facility meetings.
  • Promote the facility and amenities to potential members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • College degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Previous Tennis Pro experience preferred.
  • Strong, experienced tennis player.
  • Teaching certifications from USTA or USPTR preferred.
  • Strong team player with excellent customer service skills and work ethic.
  • Well-organized and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, motivational.
  • Professional manner, discretion, and appearance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with computers and office equipment.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, walk, talk, and use hands.
  • Awareness of proper body mechanics to prevent injury.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Flexible work hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation:
Compensation will be paid according to the following schedule:
  • All instructed tennis classes will be compensated at a commission rate of 80% of gross revenue collected for each class.
  • All instructed pickleball classes will be compensated at a commission rate of 70% of gross revenue collected for each class.
  • All instructed private lessons will be compensated at a commission rate of 80% of gross revenue collected for each lesson.
  • Participation in racket sports socials and special events will be compensated at a commission rate of 50% of gross revenue collected for the event. For non-revenue-generating events, compensation will be paid at a rate of $30.00 per hour.
  • Attendance at required meetings and mandatory Arch trainings will be compensated at the current Virginia minimum wage rate of $12.77 per hour, or the applicable minimum wage in effect at the time services are performed.
