Job description

The CNC Operator II is responsible for editing and operating CNC machines in support of TSS Denverโ€™s Visionโ€“Missionโ€“Values (VMV). This position requires following standard work instructions of each required specification ensuring quality production of parts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operates semi-automatic or automatic computer numerically controlled machine tools to perform progressive machining operations on repetitive work to close and exact tolerances and finish specifications utilizing standard work, standard work instructions, and SMED.
  • Performs minor setup operations for work orders and edits programs as needed.
  • Collects and records Statistical Process Control (SPC) data as required by inspection methods for each order to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Reads and edits simple G code programs as well as adjusts tooling offsets.
  • Operates the Optical Comparator and other measuring tools to ensure the correct dimensions of machined parts.
  • Receives and reviews production orders for machining jobs; requires reviewing the blueprint and materials for accuracy.
  • Oversees machine operation throughout the production run to ensure part conformance.
  • Performs daily maintenance checks as required, including greasing and/or oiling the machine and freeing equipment of chips.
  • May be required to run more than one machine simultaneously per standard work.
  • Cross-trains trains in other areas as needed.
  • Demonstrates understanding, support, and consistent application of our Vision, Mission, and Core Values.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

This position requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.ย  Should have a minimum of 3 years of CNC experience in a manufacturing environment operating CNC equipment.ย  Experience with 5S and Lean Manufacturing is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with all levels of the organization in English; both written and verbal
  • Must have a high mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate CNC machinery in a manner that uses raw materials to their best advantage and protects tools against breakage.
  • Must have basic math skills to read and process work instructions
  • Must have knowledge of the nonconforming material procedure
  • Should have excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
  • Ability to read and edit G code programs and adjust tooling offsets.
  • Must have knowledge of SPC charts based on dimensions and the ability to read them
  • Must have the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have a high level of attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of operational data, machine set-up, blueprints, and work instructions
  • Must have the ability to adapt to constantly changing priorities
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Ability to use and read measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, scales, and other quality control tools. Must be able to read measurements between .100 to .0001
Work Environment/Physical Demands/Equipment Used

This position is in a manufacturing facility requiring prolonged standing, walking, squatting, twisting, bending, and reaching throughout an entire ten-hour or eight-hour shift.ย  Must be able to move and handle various-sized products in bags and/or boxes in a dirty, dusty, noisy environment.ย  Requires lifting up to 50 lbs.
