Shield HealthCare is looking for a Senior RPGLE Programmer for our Valencia, CA corporate office. The Senior RPGLE Programmer designs, develops, and supports Shield’s IBMi order-to-cash system. Collaborates with IT and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, scalable solutions. Converts use case specifications and problem statements to computer code. Provides Tier 3 Help Desk support to identify root causes and resolve problems. Shares oversight of night batch processing on a rotational basis.
This is an on-site position in Valencia, CA.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports production systems, troubleshoots issues, and optimizes performance.
  • Builds integrations with internal and external systems.
  • Participates in code reviews, testing, and deployment processes.
  • Creates and maintains DB2/400 database structures.
  • Documents technical designs and system workflows.
  • Collaborates with cross‑functional teams to deliver business solutions.
  • Consults with IT management, PMO personnel, peers, and business customers to gather necessary information about program intent, functions, features, data requirements, input requirements, output requirements, internal and external checks and controls, hardware and operating system environment and interfaces with other systems in support of solution design.
  • Designs and/or writes program specifications with little to no supervision.
  • Compiles code into programs and corrects errors detected during the compile process.
  • Creates test transactions and runs tests to identify errors. Analyzes code to find causes of errors and revises programs.
  • Confirms programs meet specifications.
  • Writes and maintains documentation of changes to computer code, programs, and specifications.
  • Designs and codes layouts for onscreen user interfaces, printed outputs and interfaces with other systems.
  • Reviews user and technical documentation written by others to confirm consistency with program operations.
  • Provides technical assistance by responding to inquiries regarding errors, problems or questions with programs.
  • Revises program for corrections, enhancements or system environment changes.
  • Train end-users or technical support staff to use and support program.
  • Coordinates with other programmers about program revisions.
  • Performs Programmer of Week (POW) duties.
  • Manages vendors and/or performs AS400 System Administrator functions.
  • Opens & manages tickets with IBM and/or vendors to perform upgrades or resolve incidents / problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 7-15 years of IBM I / AS400 development experience.
  • Strong RPGLE, SQL, and DB2/400 skills and experience with ILE concepts and modular programming.
  • Superb knowledge of the AS400 operating system and commands.
  • AS400 Administrator experience a plus.
  • Experience with Turnover Release Management a plus.
  • Experience with Mimix DR a plus.
  • Development experience with C# and/or .net a plus.
  • Excellent project management experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • BS/BA Degree in CS or Business preferred.
  • Experience with order creation to cash application solutions in a D2C environment a plus.
