What is a millwright helper?

Millwright helpers are skilled laborers who assist millwrights with installing, maintaining, and repairing industrial machinery and equipment. Their tasks include moving tools and materials, cleaning work areas, holding or supplying parts and tools, and performing basic maintenance under supervision. Millwright helpers play a crucial role in ensuring that millwrights can work efficiently and safely, often working in factories, power plants, and construction sites. They may also help with assembly, alignment, and adjustment of machinery components. This position is often a starting point for those interested in pursuing a career as a full-fledged millwright.

What does a millwright helper do?

A millwright helper assists a millwright in installing equipment, prepping job sites, and moving machines before a construction project. They also remove material after the project is complete. Depending on the project, a millwright helper may help erect scaffolding, build frames for cement, or installs equipment for use. They may also perform maintenance on equipment and machinery, including basic repairs and preventative maintenance such as changing oil or adding lubricant to moving parts.

To thrive as a Millwright Helper, you need a basic understanding of mechanical systems, hand and power tool proficiency, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with equipment like hoists, forklifts, and measuring instruments, as well as certifications in safety practices such as OSHA training, are commonly required. By handling these supportive duties, you enable experienced millwrights to focus on more technical work, which not only keeps projects on schedule but also provides you with valuable on-the-job learning opportunities.
