POSITION TITLE

R&D Professional, Milliken Research Operations

POSITION OVERVIEW

This position is part of Milliken Research Operations Analytical group. The position provides analytical chemical support to the corporation to assist in development of new products and support of current products. The position also provides leadership in lab safety policies. The position is located at our corporate headquarters in Spartanburg, SC. Hours of work are typically Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide knowledgeable insights and leadership in analysis of a broad range of raw materials and products using Gas and Liquid Chromatography, with high resolution accurate mass (HRAM) spectrometry.
  • Accelerate problem-solving for R&D projects, as well as support raw material evaluations, manufacturing quality projects, and regulatory work in a high throughput lab environment.
  • Work involves unknown identification, in process reaction analysis, known material quantitation, and polymer separations where materials represent molecular weights from small molecules to high MW polymers.
  • Develop new methods for sample preparation and analysis, complete analyses, and report results.
  • Use of hypothesis-driven study for troubleshooting and cause analysis
  • Excellence in required lab operations.
  • Own analytical workstreams from sample intake through analysis and communication.
  • Lead the lab safety process. Participate fully in the site and lab safety process. Establish new safe lab practices when required.
  • Work effectively with cross-functional team members to achieve project targets and deadlines.
  • Organize and effectively communicate results and new ideas (reports, tables, charts).

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED

  • Demonstrated independent thought leadership and practical familiarity with Gas and Liquid Chromatography, HRAM analyses.
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, Master's degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or Ph.D. (new graduate) in Analytical Chemistry or a related technical field.
  • Strong analytical capability for new method development.
  • Experience working in a chemical laboratory setting; including safely handling and mixing chemicals, documenting experiments, and operating scientific equipment
  • Experience working as the primary safety authority for laboratory infrastructure and instrumentation.
  • Experience with method validation.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

DESIRED SKILLS

  • Familiarity with Gel Permeation Chromatography.
  • Experience with data analytics/statistics as applied to analytical chemistry.
  • Good overall familiarity with analytical techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage teams.
