Summary:

The Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing generators to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This position performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, installation support, and customer guidance while following established safety standards and technical procedures.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily; other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
  • Accurately inspect and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues with generators
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance to minimize generator downtime
  • Repair malfunctioning generators and replace defective components as necessary
  • Oversee and assist with installation of new generators, ensuring they are fully operational
  • Test generator output and performance to confirm compliance with specifications and operational requirements
  • Maintain detailed documentation of all maintenance, repairs, inspections, and service actions
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures while servicing equipment
  • Communicate with customers to identify generator needs and recommend appropriate solutions
  • Provide guidance and education on generator operation and safety practices
  • Remain current on technological advancements and implement updated techniques when applicable
  • Order, track, and replace parts, materials, and supplies
  • Support process improvements related to maintenance procedures and service operations
  • Contribute to reporting, recordkeeping, and the development of technical documentation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Thorough understanding of diesel and gasoline engines, electrical systems, and generator components
  • Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills, including the ability to read technical drawings and schematics
  • Completion of a technical program in electrical or mechanical engineering, or equivalent professional experience
  • Proven ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical malfunctions
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and documentation skills
  • Ability to consistently follow and enforce safety protocols

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with civilian and/or military-style generators
  • At least 2 years of unsupervised field experience performing comprehensive generator maintenance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technician certification from FG Willison, Cummins, Caterpillar, or similar organizations, preferred
  • Prior military or LOGCAP generator maintenance experience
  • Knowledge of medical supplies and equipment is preferred
