William Paterson University invites applications for the full-time, 10-month position of Teacher in the on-campus Child Development Center.
The Teacher position reports to the University's Child Development Center Director and Associate Director. The incumbent will be assigned to a preschool or kindergarten classroom and will collaborate with the teaching team and consult with the Instructional Coach. This position will be assisted by instructional assistants in each classroom and will have opportunities to participate in early childhood workshops and conferences.
The Child Development Center will serve as a resource for the University's Early Childhood Professional Development Schools Network, as a learning lab for early childhood teacher candidates in the College of Education, and for other colleges within the University supporting student assignments and/or students/faculty research.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Serves as the teacher of record in a preschool or kindergarten classroom.
  • Creates a developmentally appropriate early childhood environment and implements best practices in early childhood education that meets the needs of diverse learners.
  • Partners with families via conferences, workshops and events; engages in ongoing, open communication with families regarding the children's social-emotional and academic development.
  • Submits weekly lesson plans to instructional coach and attends feedback (fidelity) sessions.
  • Documents and maintains accurate performance-based assessment data (TSG portal).
  • Works with instructional coach and other team members to evaluate one's classroom and teaching practice (ECERS-3), The Fidelity Tools Teacher Checklist and the Inclusive Classroom Profile (ICP).
  • Administers NJDECE approved screening (ESI) in accordance with NJDECE timeline.
  • Ensures compliance with NJ Department of Children and Families (NJDCF) required professional development hours and trainings.
  • Adheres to the National Association for the Education of Young Children, (NAEYC) ten accreditation early childhood program standard and assessment indicators.
  • Follows procedures for safe storage of classroom confidential school files, ensuring that all record keeping procedures comply with NJ Department of Human Services (NJDHS) licensing laws.
  • Protects confidentiality of records and information gained as part of professional duties.
  • Attends and/or facilitates local, state and university workshops and conferences, as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that are appropriate for the position.

Required qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • NJ DOE P-3 Teaching Certificate OR a Certificate of Eligibility (CE) OR Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS)
  • Knowledge of the New Jersey Preschool and/or Kindergarten Teaching and Learning Standards.
  • Knowledge and use of NJ Division of Early Childhood Education (NJDECE) approved curriculum model (Creative Curriculum/Teaching Strategies Gold).
  • Knowledge and use of developmentally appropriate performance-based assessment instruments including Teaching Strategies Gold (TSG).
  • Understanding of the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS) subscales and items.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to accommodate all students.

AFT Salary Grade 18 - $53,277.47 - $82,568.88
