Job description

ASSYST is seeking a Cloud Data Migration Engineer to support our client project in Austin, TX.

Position will be 3 days remote with 2 days (Mon & Thurs) required to be onsite at the location listed above.

Scope of work:

  • Cloud Data Migration Engineer with hands-on experience migrating Oracle workloads to AWS using AWS DMS, supporting full-load, CDC, and real-time streaming data migration architectures.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in AWS infrastructure and networking (VPCs, subnets, security groups, VPNs, Direct Connect), cloud-native services (EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, Lambda), and Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT processes, migration planning, cutover and rollback strategies, automation using Python/Bash/PowerShell, and monitoring through CloudWatch and CloudTrail is required.
  • Strong communication skills and experience modernizing legacy on-premises systems in hybrid cloud environments are highly desirable.

Required Experience:

  • Experience in IT, supporting the design, development, deployment, or delivery of technology solutions.
  • Experience using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) to migrate data from Oracle to AWS.
  • Experience with batch and real-time data ingestion, including full loads, Change Data Capture (CDC), and streaming architectures.
  • Experience with AWS cloud services, specifically designing and implementing infrastructure and networking (VPC, subnets, security groups, routing).
  • Experience with core AWS services (EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, Lambda) and infrastructure-as-code tools (CloudFormation or Terraform).
  • Experience with ETL/ELT processes and data integration methodologies in cloud migration projects.
  • Experience with scripting and automation using Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Experience configuring and managing cloud network security, including VPNs, Direct Connect, and security groups.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., AWS CloudWatch, CloudTrail).
  • Experience developing data migration and cutover plans, including rollback strategies and minimizing downtime.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including documenting technical designs and migration runbooks.
  • Experience with hybrid cloud/on-premises connectivity and legacy system modernization.

Preferred Experience:

  • AWS certification(s) such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified Database โ€“ Specialty.
  • Experience working in public sector or state government environments.
