Newton Middle School is looking for a dedicated, passionate, creative library media specialist!ย

Position Description:
The Media Center Coordinator creates an environment where learning, collaborationย and creative problem solving thrive. The Library Media Coordinator demonstrates his or her role as a visible and active member within the school community and as anย advocate for the school library program. He/she is responsible for managing the library collection, providing and encouraging access to relevant and culturally responsiveย resources for students, faculty and other community members.
Essential Duties:




-Advocate for barrier-free access to library resources for all community members
-Maintain library collection as necessary (discard dated materials, purchase newย materials)
-Coordinate and supervise volunteers and student assistants
-Work collaboratively with faculty and administrators
-Encourage the use of instructional technology to engage students and to improveย learning
-Advocate for school library programs by striving to create unique learningย opportunities for students
-Demonstrate a commitment to maintaining intellectual freedom
-Work with teachers and other educators to build and strengthen connectionsย between student information and research needs, curricular content, learning
outcomes, and information resources
-Join with teachers and others to plan and implement meaningful experiencesย that will promote a love of reading and lifelong learning
-Create and maintain the school library as a teaching and learning environmentย that is inviting, safe, flexible, and conducive to student learning
-Create flexible scheduling of the school library space to provide
ย 











EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or equivalent, BA preferred
  • Criminal background check required for hire
  • Prefer library science coursework


This position is 37.5 hours per week,ย  180 days,ย  Grade 5 (startingย $21.17, education/experience considered)
