Middle School Intern information

What are middle school interns?

Middle school interns are students, typically in grades 6-8, who participate in short-term work-based learning experiences, often through partnerships between their school and local businesses or organizations. These internships are designed to introduce young students to various career fields, build professional skills, and encourage exploration of future interests. The programs are usually structured, supervised, and focused on education rather than employment, aiming to provide valuable exposure rather than job training.

What types of tasks and responsibilities can a Middle School Intern expect during their internship?

As a Middle School Intern, you can expect to assist teachers with classroom activities, help prepare instructional materials, and support students with their assignments. You may also have opportunities to supervise group projects, help organize school events, and provide one-on-one assistance to students who need extra support. The role typically involves working closely with teachers and other staff members, offering valuable exposure to the school environment and insight into educational careers. This hands-on experience is a great way to develop communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Middle School Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Middle School Intern, you need a willingness to learn, reliability, and a basic understanding of classroom or office etiquette, often supported by enrollment in a middle school and permission from a school or program coordinator. Familiarity with common digital tools like Google Workspace or Microsoft Office is helpful, though not always required. Strong communication, teamwork, and a positive attitude help interns stand out and build good relationships with mentors and peers. These skills and qualities are important because they enable interns to gain valuable experience, contribute meaningfully, and develop habits for future academic and career success.

Job description

Youth for Christ is a movement that reaches young people everywhere with the hope of Christ. We work with the local church and other like-minded partners to raise up lifelong followers of Jesus who lead by their godliness in lifestyle, devotion to the Word of God and prayer, passion for sharing the love of Christ and commitment to social involvement.
Our City Life ministries live this out by connecting with urban teens to share God’s truth and to equip them with the tools to experience real life change. We provide club meetings for junior high students to help them learn about God and get their questions answered. In addition, teens are invited to participate in service opportunities, in-school mentoring groups, retreats, leadership training, individual mentoring and group Bible studies.
The City Life Center is a place where teens come to belong, have fun, and learn new skills. This includes being part of a community of peers, and trustworthy adults, who help these teens in Franklinton explore how a relationship with Christ fits into their lives. In our after school program, we have classes and activities including open gym, music production, auto mechanics, photography and homework help for both middle and high school students.
The City Life West Intern will show and tell the love of Christ to urban teens on the Westside through the gospel. They accomplish this by working well as a member of a team to help lead sports and educational programming for youth at the City Life Center while engaging young people relationally and spiritually.
Interns will also get the opportunity to regularly participate in City Life internship learning opportunities. Qualified candidates will be involved in a local Bible believing church, have a growing personal relationship with the Lord, and will model a godly lifestyle as an example to the youth they serve.
