Job description

Basic Function:
The Logistics Specialist is responsible for supporting international export shipments for secondary export markets, ocean freight bookings, container scheduling, inbound vendor freight and providing cross-functional logistics support across the department. The Logistics Specialist will communicate shipment information to customers, accounting department, and Operations.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Prepares information on manifest such as name of shipper, weight, destination, and charges from bills of lading and shipper's declaration.
2. Makes bookings for export orders to but not limited to - Japan, Europe, Middle East, India and miscellaneous export markets.
3. Schedule containers and drayage and coordinates shipment priorities.
4. Communicate with freight forwarders and Production Team for shipment timing.
5. Assists in negotiating international freight rates to determine most efficient and economical routing and mode of transportation.
6. Initiates investigations into causes of damage or shortages in consignments or overcharges and prevention of detention / demurrage.
7. Responsible for coordinating inbound trucking with procurement department.
8. Provide shipment tracking to customers.
9. Prepares invoices by figuring footages from tallies and taking dollar amounts of sale from acknowledgement, ensuring the utmost accuracy of figures.
10. Obtains documents / information for customers.
11. Posts transactions to accounting records such as work sheets, ledger, or computer files.
12. Cross train with Shipping Coordinator & Documentation Coordinator.
13. Assist Shipping Coordinator during overflow periods.
Requirements
Qualifications and Required Skills:
• 2 - 5 years related experience in shipping with minimum of 3 years shipping experience is desired
• Associates degree is a plus
• Excellent data entry skills with high accuracy and detail oriented
• Use of basic math is required
• Ability to multi-task
• International documentation experience a plus
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong working knowledge in Excel, Word, and Outlook is desired
