What is a midweight graphic designer?

A midweight graphic designer is a professional with several years of experience who can handle complex design projects independently. They typically have a strong portfolio, proficiency in design software like Adobe Creative Suite, and may supervise junior staff or collaborate closely with clients. This role often requires a solid understanding of branding, layout, and visual communication skills.

What other jobs can I do as a graphic designer?

As a mid-weight graphic designer, you can transition into roles such as art director, creative director, UI/UX designer, brand strategist, or visual designer. These positions often require strong skills in design software like Adobe Creative Suite and may involve leadership, project management, or specialized design focus areas.

What is the difference between Mid Weight Graphic Designer vs Junior Graphic Designer?

The main difference between a Mid Weight Graphic Designer and a Junior Graphic Designer lies in experience and independence. Junior designers are still developing their skills and typically work under close guidance. Employers often see Mid Weight designers as more autonomous, making them suitable for more advanced roles within creative teams.

Will AI replace graphic designers in 10 years?

Mid Weight Graphic Designers will continue to play a vital role in creative projects, as AI tools are primarily used to assist with tasks like automation and generating ideas rather than replacing the need for human creativity, judgment, and understanding of client needs. While AI can enhance productivity, the demand for original, strategic, and nuanced design work ensures that skilled designers remain essential in the industry.

What are Mid Weight Graphic Designers?

Mid Weight Graphic Designers are creative professionals with a few years of experience in graphic design, typically between junior and senior levels. They are skilled in using design software to create visual content for print, digital, or branding projects. Mid Weight designers often take on more responsibility than juniors, such as handling projects independently, collaborating with clients or stakeholders, and mentoring junior designers. Their work includes developing concepts, layouts, and visual assets that communicate a brand's message effectively. They play a key role in bridging the gap between junior designers and senior creative leads.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mid Weight Graphic Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Mid Weight Graphic Designer, you typically need a strong portfolio, proficiency in design principles, and a bachelor's degree in graphic design or a related field. Expertise with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and familiarity with digital design tools or project management platforms is often expected. Creativity, effective communication, and time management are essential soft skills that help designers collaborate and deliver quality work under tight deadlines. These abilities ensure the designer can produce compelling visuals that meet client objectives and maintain consistency across projects.

What kinds of projects and responsibilities can a Mid Weight Graphic Designer expect on a typical team?

As a Mid Weight Graphic Designer, you can expect to work on a diverse range of projects such as branding, digital campaigns, print collateral, and social media assets. You'll often collaborate closely with senior designers, copywriters, and marketing teams to translate concepts into polished visual solutions. While you'll have more autonomy than a junior designer, you'll still receive guidance and feedback to help refine your work. This role typically requires balancing multiple projects at once, managing deadlines, and occasionally presenting ideas directly to clients or stakeholders.

How much do midweight designers make?

Midweight graphic designers typically earn between $45,000 and $65,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. They often have 3-5 years of experience and proficiency in design tools like Adobe Creative Suite.

Graphic Designer

Location: Dallas, TX

Employment Type: Full-Time, In Office

Department: Design

Reports To: Design Director

About Amazing Life

Amazing Life creates content, products, and technology that equip churches and families to inspire the next generation.

We are looking for a Graphic Designer to join our Design Department in Dallas. This role supports design needs across Amazing Life, with a primary focus on website, digital, marketing, product, and brand design.

Role Overview

This is a mid-weight Graphic Designer role for someone with strong Figma skills, digital design experience, excellent taste, and a maker mindset.

The Graphic Designer will help maintain and improve Amazing Life’s web presence while also supporting marketing, product, content, campaign, and brand needs across the company.

The primary need is a designer who can work confidently in Figma, support website updates and new page builds, understand how a brand should work online, and create clear, polished digital experiences.

This role is best suited for someone who enjoys making, refining, and shipping real work, not only exploring concepts. The right candidate should be organized, proactive, coachable, easy to work with, and able to move work forward without needing every step mapped out.

This role sits within the Design Department and works closely with Marketing, Content, Product, Web, and other internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

Support day-to-day website updates and new page builds in Figma Sites.

Design clear, visually strong web pages that align with the Amazing Life brand and support product, marketing, and content goals.

Use Figma to create digital layouts, website assets, campaign visuals, product graphics, presentation designs, and reusable components.

Support design needs across content, marketing, product, web, digital, brand, social, presentation, and print formats.

Translate briefs into clear, effective, on-brand design solutions.

Create strong layouts with clear hierarchy, good typography, and careful attention to spacing, rhythm, and detail.

Support the development and maintenance of brand systems across Amazing Life products and platforms.

Collaborate with designers, marketers, writers, content leads, product owners, and web team members.

Manage multiple projects at the same time while meeting deadlines.

Prepare accurate production-ready files for digital and print use.

Keep working files, folders, and design components organized.

Apply feedback accurately and improve work through review cycles.

Participate in design reviews and contribute to a high standard of creative work.

Required Skills and Experience

3–5 years of professional graphic design experience.

Strong portfolio showing digital, web, brand, marketing, and layout design.

Strong Figma experience, including digital layouts, web page design, components, and organized working files.

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.

Strong understanding of typography, layout, composition, visual hierarchy, UX/UI principles, and brand consistency.

Experience designing for websites, digital platforms, campaigns, social media, presentations, and product-related assets.

Ability to think like a marketer: understanding how design helps communicate value, guide attention, and support product growth.

Excellent design taste, with the ability to recognize when work is not yet clear, polished, or strong enough.

Coachable, open to feedback, and able to improve work quickly through review cycles.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.

Clear communication skills.

Ability to work independently without needing constant direction.

Preferred Skills

Experience with Figma Sites or similar no-code web tools.

Experience creating or maintaining Figma design systems.

Basic understanding of responsive design principles.

Experience with website platforms, CMS tools, or web workflows.

Basic motion design knowledge.

Illustration skills.

Experience designing for content, curriculum, ministry, publishing, or family-focused products.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Web Design, or a related field preferred.

Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.

Portfolio RequirementsApplicants must submit a portfolio that demonstrates:

Strong digital and web design work.

Figma-based work.

Brand or marketing design.

Layout and typography skills.

Ability to apply a consistent visual system across multiple deliverables.

Clear examples of finished work, not only concepts.

What Success Looks LikeThe right candidate will be able to:

Create clear, polished, on-brand design work.

Work confidently in Figma.

Support website updates and new page builds with growing independence.

Design web pages that are useful, easy to understand, and visually strong.

Support multiple teams without losing focus or quality.

Understand the purpose behind a brief, not just complete the task.

Communicate clearly and proactively.

Keep files and systems organized.

Respond well to feedback and improve work quickly.

Help raise the overall quality and consistency of Amazing Life design.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, in-office position based in Dallas, TX.

The role requires regular collaboration with internal teams and active participation in design reviews, project discussions, and production workflows.

Why Join Amazing Life?

Create meaningful work that supports churches and families.

Work across a wide range of design needs, including website, marketing, product, content, digital, and brand.

Join a collaborative Design Department with a high standard for clear, useful, well-crafted work.

Contribute to products and resources that serve real people and real communities.
