Why Sony Interactive Entertainment?
Sony Interactive Entertainment isn't just the Best Place to Play - it's also the Best Place to Work. Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is the company behind the PlayStation brand. As a subsidiary of Sony Group Corporation, we're part of a proud legacy of innovation and excellence. SIE is a dynamic technology company, delivering cutting-edge hardware and network services to more than 100 million people and an entertainment leader, home to some of the most beloved and recognizable intellectual properties (IP) in the world. Our role at SIE is to create and nurture the experiences under the PlayStation brand, a name synonymous with entertainment excellence and creativity.
Senior Software Engineer - Streaming & Systems
Aliso Viejo, CA
The vision:
As a Senior Software Engineer, Streaming & Systems, you will use AI-native engineering practices to build performance-sensitive systems across game streaming, platform software, infrastructure, and emerging product areas. You'll work across low-level C/C++, Linux and Windows, real-time media, cloud-enabled capabilities, and systems problems that are still taking shape.
What you'll do:
  • Explore, prototype, validate, and ship performance-sensitive systems that improve reliability, developer velocity, and user experience.
  • Build low-level and performance-sensitive software in C/C++, primarily in Linux environments.
  • Work across game streaming, platform software, infrastructure, developer tooling, and cloud-enabled capabilities.
  • Use AI-native workflows for code exploration, implementation, debugging, testing, documentation, automation, and rapid prototyping.
  • Investigate ways cloud-delivered experiences can become better than local experiences.
  • Turn ambiguous ideas into demos, experiments, measurements, and production-quality implementations.
  • Debug complex systems issues across performance, reliability, platform behavior, and production-like environments.
  • Collaborate with a focused engineering team and domain experts across streaming, platform, infrastructure, and cloud.

You're a great fit if you have:
  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Senior-level software engineering experience, or equivalent ownership of complex systems
  • Strong C/C++ skills and deep Linux systems experience.
  • Practical fluency with AI-native engineering workflows, including coding agents, LLM-assisted debugging, test generation, automation, and rapid exploration.
  • Experience in systems-oriented or performance-sensitive codebases.
  • Strong product judgment, systems curiosity, and a focus on improving user and developer experience.
  • The ability to operate in ambiguity, prototype quickly, validate ideas, and harden successful approaches.
  • Clear communication skills and a habit of raising team quality through technical judgment, reusable workflows, and mentoring by example.
  • A habit of taking ownership, communicating trade-offs clearly, and keeping momentum as priorities change.

Bonus XP:
  • Rust development experience.
  • Windows systems experience.
  • Real-time media, game streaming, or interactive media experience.
  • Graphics, GPU, capture, rendering, or video encoding experience.
  • Distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, or production platform experience.
  • Experience helping teams adopt better AI-native engineering practices.
  • Japanese language or cross-cultural collaboration experience.

You enjoy playing video games.
At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role's base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.
Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
In addition, this role is eligible for SIE's top-tier benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, matching 401(k), paid time off, wellness program and coveted employee discounts for Sony products. This role also may be eligible for a bonus package. Click here to learn more.
