What is a mid level remote software developer?

A Mid Level Remote Software Developer is a software engineer with several years of experience (typically 2-5 years) who works from a location outside of a traditional office environment, often from home. They are responsible for designing, coding, testing, and maintaining software applications, collaborating with team members through digital communication tools. Mid level developers are expected to work independently on moderately complex tasks, contribute to code reviews, and assist junior developers. Remote roles require strong time management and communication skills to ensure productivity and effective teamwork.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a mid level remote software developer?

To thrive as a Mid Level Remote Software Developer, you need proficiency in programming languages (such as JavaScript, Python, or Java), experience with software development methodologies, and a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS or Azure), and collaborative tools such as Jira or Slack is typically expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective written communication help you excel, especially in a remote environment. These skills and qualities are essential for delivering high-quality software, collaborating efficiently with distributed teams, and adapting to evolving project requirements.

What are some common challenges faced by mid level remote software developers, and how can they be addressed?

Mid-level remote software developers often encounter challenges such as maintaining effective communication with distributed teams, managing their time independently, and staying aligned with project goals without in-person supervision. To address these, it's important to proactively participate in virtual meetings, use collaboration tools like Slack or Jira, and set clear daily or weekly work objectives. Regular check-ins with team members and seeking feedback can also help ensure that you remain connected and productive, fostering both personal growth and project success.

As a Solutions Lead, you'll play a critical role in shaping the technology direction of our products and platforms while guiding a team of engineers through design, delivery, and continuous improvement. This role requires a strong systems thinker who can see beyond immediate requirements to understand the broader architectural landscape, ensuring solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned to enterprise objectives.

You'll lead and coach developers while remaining hands-on in solution design, technical decision-making, and delivery execution. Success in this role requires balancing strategic architectural thinking with day-to-day development leadership, while leveraging emerging technologies, including AI-assisted development tools, to improve engineering throughput, quality, and team effectiveness.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU:

      • Engineer II: $115,000 - $135,000, plus annual bonus opportunity
      • Engineer III: $135,000 - $155,000, plus annual bonus opportunity
  • 401(k) plan with a 2% company contribution and 6% company match.
  • Work-life balance with vacation, personal time and paid holidays. See our benefits and perks page for details.
  • Applicants for this position must not now, nor at any point in the future, require sponsorship for employment

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of software engineers through solution design, development, and delivery.
  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to define scalable, enterprise-ready solutions.
  • Drive architectural discussions and influence technical direction across multiple initiatives.
  • Design and implement cloud-native applications and services using Java, Spring, Boot, Mulesoft and AWS technologies.
  • Develop and support REST-based APIs and event-driven integrations utilizing technologies such as Kafka and MongoDB

  • Promote engineering best practices related to architecture, scalability, performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Champion the adoption of AI-enabled development tools and practices to improve productivity and accelerate delivery.
  • Provide technical leadership across the software development lifecycle, from requirements through production support.
  • Support a diverse technology ecosystem, including applications with React-based front-end components.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • 5+ years experience leading technical teams and mentoring software engineers.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and system design capabilities.
  • Ability to understand and communicate both tactical solutions and long-term architectural strategy.
  • Hands-on experience building cloud-native applications using Java, Spring Boot, and AWS.
  • Experience working with REST APIs, event-driven architectures, Kafka, and MongoDB.
  • Familiarity with modern software engineering practices and AI-assisted development tools.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  •

PREFERRED:

  • Experience with MuleSoft and API-led integration patterns.
  • Exposure to React applications and supporting front-end development teams.
  • Experience influencing architecture and solution design across multiple teams or product areas.

This role is classified as remote; however, periodic in-person attendance will be required at times for activities such as quarterly or project planning, training, or other business-critical meetings.
