What are Mid Level .NET Developers?

Mid Level .NET Developers are software professionals with a few years of experience (typically 2-5 years) who specialize in building, testing, and maintaining applications using the Microsoft .NET framework. They are skilled in languages such as C# or VB.NET and are responsible for developing both front-end and back-end components, debugging code, and collaborating with senior developers and other team members. Their experience allows them to handle moderately complex projects independently while still seeking guidance on more advanced topics.

How does a Mid Level .NET Developer typically collaborate with front-end developers and other team members?

As a Mid Level .NET Developer, you will frequently work alongside front-end developers, UI/UX designers, and QA specialists to ensure seamless integration between the backend and user-facing components. Collaboration often involves participating in daily stand-ups, code reviews, and sprint planning meetings to align on project goals and timelines. Effective communication is key, as you'll need to translate technical backend requirements into actionable items for other team members, troubleshoot integration issues, and contribute to shared documentation. This teamwork-driven environment fosters both technical growth and a deeper understanding of the full software development lifecycle.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mid Level .NET Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Mid Level .NET Developer, you need solid experience with C#, ASP.NET, and object-oriented programming, typically backed by a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with Visual Studio, SQL Server, and version control systems like Git, as well as relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: .NET Developer, are highly valued. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective teamwork and communication skills set candidates apart. These competencies are crucial for building reliable, efficient applications and collaborating successfully within development teams.

Job description

Traffic Engineer, Project Mid-Level
Position Summary
BENEN seeks a Traffic Engineer at the project level to support and lead the delivery of traffic engineering projects for public infrastructure and private development clients. This role is a core member of the Traffic Division, with direct responsibility for producing high quality design documents, coordinating with senior staff, and mentoring junior team members. The position is ideal for an engineer who is ready to move beyond pure production into task leadership and early stage project management.
The Traffic Division delivers complete traffic engineering solutions for public infrastructure and private development, including traffic signal design, roadway lighting, intelligent transportation systems, pedestrian and roadway safety improvements, multi modal operations, signing, pavement delineation, and work zone traffic control. The Traffic Engineer manages and executes traffic engineering assignments under the direction of a Senior Traffic Engineer, including preparation of plans, specifications, and cost estimates for traffic signals, lighting, ramp metering, transportation electrical systems, signing, pavement delineation, and construction stage traffic handling. The role collaborates with team members and clients, completes traffic and photometric analyses, prepares technical reports, and helps manage project timelines and budgets while serving as a bridge between junior staff and senior management.
Essential Responsibilities
Internal Focus
  • Contribute to the development and use of Traffic Division standards, templates, and design procedures.
  • Support a culture of quality through consistent application of quality control processes on assigned tasks.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and informal mentoring to junior engineers, designers, and technicians on tools and design fundamentals.

Project and Staff Focus
  • Work with a team of engineers and technicians to design and produce traffic engineering projects from concept through final design.
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates for traffic signals, roadway and streetscape lighting, ramp metering, transportation electrical systems, signing, pavement delineation, and construction stage traffic handling.
  • Perform traffic and photometric analyses using appropriate software and ensure that designs comply with applicable agency standards and regulations.
  • Take ownership of defined design tasks, deliver work under agreed budgets and schedules, and proactively flag risks and scope changes to the Senior Traffic Engineer or Project Manager.
  • Coordinate with other internal disciplines to integrate traffic design with roadway, structures, and civil improvements.

External and Client Focus
  • May participate in client and agency coordination meetings to support senior staff, present technical information, and document action items.
  • Respond to review comments and questions from agencies, clients, and contractors in collaboration with the Senior Traffic Engineer.
  • Represent BENEN with professionalism and responsiveness in all external interactions.

Business Development Focus
  • Support proposal efforts by providing project specific technical input, example project descriptions, and level of effort estimates.
  • Assist with assembly of proposals, resumes, and project sheets that demonstrate the capabilities of the Traffic Division.
  • Contribute to client satisfaction through reliable delivery and a focus on solving client problems.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
Registration as a Professional Engineer in Civil, Electrical, or Traffic Engineering in California is preferred.
  • Three or more years of experience preparing plans, specifications, and cost estimates for traffic signals, lighting, ramp metering, transportation electrical systems, signing, pavement delineation, and construction stage traffic handling.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver assigned work under an agreed budget and schedule with limited supervision.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document technical work and collaborate within project teams.

Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and MicroStation for traffic design and plan production.
  • Working knowledge of Synchro and SimTraffic, VISUAL, and AutoTurn, or interest and aptitude to become proficient in these tools.
  • Ability to interpret and apply agency standards and guidelines related to traffic signals, lighting, signing, pavement delineation, and work zone traffic control.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, constructible plans, specifications, and estimates.

Responsibility Horizon
Primary responsibility is at the task and project segment level, with planning horizons at the weekly and monthly level, and limited involvement in quarterly planning for the Traffic Division. The role influences project delivery performance, quality, and team development and grows toward broader responsibility for small project management and task leadership across multiple projects.
Compensation
Compensation for this role aligns with the Project Engineer band with placement depending on licensure and directly responsibility for stamping and delivering plans. $100,000 - $130,000
BENEN also offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes flexible work schedules, telework capabilities, health and wellness benefits, retirement and profit-sharing contributions, paid time off and holidays, professional development support, and performance based incentives consistent with company policy.
