Job description

Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer
Job Description

This position is responsible for creating CNC programs from construction drawings with proper material assignments and machining using Microvellum and CAD software. The role involves generating machine code from standard libraries and custom products, requiring knowledge of materials used in fabrication and their specifications to create fully machined nest drawings for a CNC controlled 3-axis overhead router. The engineer will also develop 2D CAD shop drawings from architectural and interior design drawings for submittal and construction.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret construction drawings to build products and parts through Microvellum with full machining for joinery and hardware, generating CNC G-code.
  • Assess drawings to determine the proper starting product to modify and create new custom products using Microvellum or CAD.
  • Assign proper materials to products with attention to thickness, board sizes, and grain/pattern directions.
  • Include and assign machining to parts for all applicable hardware including hinges, pulls, drawer slides, grommets, access panels, row holes, etc.
  • Understand basic machine operations and distinguish proper tooling for each machining action.
  • Create organized nest drawings for use by the machine operator.
  • Collaborate with shop floor personnel on issues and manufacturing concerns, ensuring continuous product and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with sales, purchasing, and field service providers.
  • Interpret architectural and interior design drawings to create 2D construction drawings using CAD software.
  • Provide complete, detailed, and accurate drawings for manufacturing operations, adhering to customers’ needs and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Prepare construction information such as drawings, cut lists, and BOM for programming, machining, and assembly operations.
  • Develop and modify existing products from established standard specifications.
  • Prepare approval drawings ensuring all essential product information is signed off by the customer.
  • Perform all other duties and projects as assigned.

  • Formal education such as a 2-year degree beyond high school or comparable work experience is preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Extensive and current knowledge of product, options pricing, and product applications, with an understanding of application and modification capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of store fixtures and design engineering.
  • Ability to work with layouts, drawings, and other documents to determine a customer's product needs and recommend improvements to existing layouts.
Work Environment

The role involves working with a manufacturer of custom cabinetry, architectural millwork, and casework products. The environment may expose the engineer to dust, various temperatures, fumes, and loud noise in the factory or job site setting. Regular exposure to these workplace characteristics requires tolerance and adherence to all company safety procedures, including wearing required personal protective equipment while on the production floor.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kenyon, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr.
