Location:    Boston, MA 02135
Duration:    Long-Term Contract
Work Schedule: 35 Hours per Week
 
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to support a critical Database Management Software Upgrades project. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience managing Microsoft SQL Server environments, performing upgrades and migrations, optimizing database performance, and implementing high-availability solutions in enterprise production environments.
 
Key Responsibilities
1.    Install, configure, administer, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server instances.
2.    Perform database upgrades, patching, migrations, and version transitions across SQL Server environments.
3.    Monitor database health, availability, capacity, and overall system performance.
4.    Implement, maintain, and support high-availability and disaster recovery solutions, including:
o    Always On Availability Groups
o    Failover Clustering
o    Replication
o    Log Shipping
5.    Manage database security, including logins, roles, permissions, and Active Directory (AD) group integration.
6.    Troubleshoot database-related issues and perform root cause analysis.
7.    Optimize database performance through indexing strategies, query tuning, and performance monitoring.
8.    Collaborate closely with application development teams, infrastructure teams, and system administrators to support business-critical applications.
9.    Support production environments, including participation in on-call rotations as needed.
10.    Develop and maintain database administration documentation, standards, and best practices.
 
Required Qualifications
1.    Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
2.    Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator.
3.    Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2016, 2019, and 2022.
4.    Proven expertise in SQL Server installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and migrations.
5.    Strong knowledge of:
    o    T-SQL
    o    Indexing strategies
    o    Query tuning
    o    Performance optimization
6.    Experience implementing and supporting:
    o    Always On Availability Groups
    o    Failover Clustering
    o    Replication
    o    Log Shipping
7.    Experience supporting mission-critical production environments with high availability requirements.
8.    Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
9.    Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
 
Preferred Qualifications
1.    Experience with PowerShell scripting and SQL automation.
2.    Experience with SSIS and SSRS.
3.    Experience using SQL Sentry for monitoring and performance management.
4.    Familiarity with enterprise infrastructure and cloud-integrated SQL environments.
