What is Microsoft Software Testing?

Microsoft Software Testing refers to the process of evaluating and verifying Microsoft software products to ensure they meet the required quality standards and function as intended. This involves various testing methods such as functional, performance, security, and usability testing. Testers identify bugs, report them, and collaborate with developers to resolve issues before the software is released. The goal is to deliver reliable, user-friendly, and secure software products to customers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Microsoft Software Tester, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Microsoft Software Tester, you need a solid understanding of software development life cycles, test methodologies, and proficiency in programming languages such as C# or Python, often supported by a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with test management tools (like Azure DevOps), automation frameworks (such as Selenium), and certifications like ISTQB are highly valuable. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication help testers collaborate with developers and ensure quality outcomes. These skills and qualifications are crucial for delivering reliable, high-quality software products in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

  • Be able to work, in detail, across multiple projects' testing needs
  • Help ensure that shipped software is of high quality and free of defects
  • Work with application developers to resolve issues identified during testing
  • Drive end-to-end test management and deliver clear, concise reports to cross-functional and program teams
  • Execute and analyze simulations including simulated operational environments
  • Report to the overall software lead for the project
  • Coordinate with other software team leads, engineering leads, and external teams or subcontractors as needed
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 7+ years of experience in full-stack software testing
  • Deep experience with managing complex test plans against evolving software baselines
  • Bachelors in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields
  • Experience working in constrained development environments, including air-gapped systems
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute test plans for complex systems
  • Ability to quickly understand and navigate complex systems and established code bases
  • Currently possesses and is able to maintain an active U.S. Top Secret SCI security clearance with Full Scope Polygraph
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 7+ years of experience in full-stack software testing, with experience testing embedded systems
  • 3+ years building and executing automated tests
  • Test experience at all levels of the software stack, from databases to GUI frameworks including but not limited to C, C++, React, .NET, and Microsoft SQL Server
