High-Level Description: The MS Exchange Operations Engineer is responsible for the administration, maintenance, and optimization of enterprise-level Microsoft Exchange email services within a secure Department of Defense environment.

Detailed Description: The Engineer will manage day-to-day operations of Microsoft Exchange, including mailbox provisioning, mail flow management, and troubleshooting complex messaging issues. This role requires strong collaboration with IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and Active Directory teams to ensure secure and resilient email services. Responsibilities include implementing retention policies, automating tasks with PowerShell, supporting Outlook Web Access (OWA), and ensuring compliance with DoD and IC security controls. The Engineer will also manage integration with Microsoft 365 (M365), develop and apply Group Policy Objects (GPOs) for Exchange and email security, and support cloud migration initiatives. Additional tasks include patching, cross-domain email support, and developing SOPs and technical documentation to support long-term sustainment and mission success.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Security+ CE certification and TS/SCI clearance with CI polygraph required.
  • 10+ years of IT experience, with 6+ years focused on Microsoft Exchange operations.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Exchange Server 2016/2019 and hybrid Exchange Online environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365, Outlook Web Access (OWA), Group Policy Objects (GPO), and email cloud migration.
  • Proficiency with PowerShell scripting for automation and reporting.
  • Deep understanding of DoD STIGs, RMF, and secure messaging protocols.
  • Experience with email gateways, DNS, mobile messaging (ActiveSync), and enterprise directory integration.
  • Familiarity with ITIL service operations and incident/change management practices.
