Job description

Position Summary

Our client is seeking an experienced Microsoft consultant to lead the design, configuration, and implementation of Microsoft Purview within a multistate construction environment. They also need this individual to help them create Data Loss Prevention (DLP) and data retention policies within their Microsoft 365 environment. This consultant will work closely with IT, Security, Compliance, Legal, and business stakeholders to establish governance standards, protect sensitive information, and ensure organizational compliance requirements are met.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft 365 Compliance technologies, and data governance best practices. This role will focus heavily on policy creation, data classification, retention strategy, and implementation of Microsoft Purview capabilities across cloud and endpoint environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and implement Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies across Microsoft 365 applications, endpoints, and file-sharing environments
  • Configure and administer Microsoft Purview compliance and governance solutions, including:
    • Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
    • Data Lifecycle Management
    • Retention Labels & Retention Policies
    • Information Protection & Data Classification
    • Endpoint DLP
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify sensitive data types, compliance requirements, and data retention standards
  • Create and maintain data classification frameworks and automatic labeling strategies
  • Configure policy rules, alerts, exceptions, user notifications, and reporting within Microsoft Purview
  • Implement and tune retention policies for email, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, and file storage environments
  • Assist with onboarding and integration of devices and users into Microsoft Purview and related Microsoft security platforms
  • Work alongside infrastructure and security teams to integrate Purview with Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Intune environments
  • Conduct testing, validation, monitoring, and optimization of DLP and retention policies to reduce false positives and operational impact
  • Develop implementation documentation, governance standards, operational procedures, and knowledge transfer materials
  • Provide recommendations for ongoing governance administration, policy maintenance, and compliance improvements
  • Support audit readiness and regulatory compliance initiatives related to data governance and information protection

Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview and Microsoft 365 Security & Compliance technologies
  • Experience designing and implementing DLP and data retention policies in enterprise environments
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Microsoft Purview
    • Microsoft Defender
    • Microsoft 365 Compliance Center
    • Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)
    • Microsoft Intune
  • Experience with:
    • Retention Labels
    • Retention Policies
    • Endpoint DLP
    • Automatic Data Classification
