What is a Micro Motion job?

A Micro Motion job typically refers to roles at Micro Motion, a brand under Emerson specializing in precision flow and density measurement technology. Jobs in this field can range from engineering and technical support to sales and manufacturing. Employees may work on developing and maintaining Coriolis flow meters and other advanced measurement instruments. These roles often require expertise in instrumentation, automation, and fluid dynamics.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Micro Motion position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Micro Motion Field Service Engineer, you need a technical background in instrumentation, process control, or mechanical/electrical engineering, often supported by a relevant degree or certification. Familiarity with flow measurement devices, calibration tools, and software such as Emerson's Micro Motion Smart Meter Verification is highly beneficial. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and adaptability are essential soft skills for fieldwork and client interactions. These skills are important to ensure accurate equipment installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance, as well as to build strong, trust-based relationships with customers.

What are some common challenges faced by Micro Motion Field Service Engineers in their daily work?

Micro Motion Field Service Engineers often encounter challenges such as troubleshooting complex flow instrumentation in diverse industrial settings and adapting quickly to varying site conditions. They frequently work independently at customer locations, which requires resourcefulness and strong communication to coordinate with both plant operators and technical support teams. Time management is crucial, especially when handling multiple service calls or urgent equipment issues. By being prepared for unexpected scenarios and maintaining ongoing training, engineers can effectively meet these daily demands and deliver high-quality service to clients.

This includes delivering training, driving solution awareness, and providing SME-level guidance on vendor products and technologies.
This is a highly collaborative role that combines technical expertise, partner engagement, and consultative pre-sales support to help partners become more proactive, profitable, and services-driven.
What you'll do
  • Deliver pre-sales technical enablement including demonstrations, training sessions, and solution overviews for partners.

  • Support partners in transitioning toward more proactive, services-led, and solution-oriented selling models.
  • Engage in thought leadership discussions with partners to influence technology adoption and investment decisions.
  • Build strong relationships with reseller and vendor stakeholders to ensure alignment and transparency in solution planning.
What you bring to the role
  • A four-year college degree (or equivalent experience in a related field) and 3 years of functional experience including a minimum of 1 year in a technical enablement, pre-sales, or solution engineering role.
  • Strong technical understanding of IT solutions, vendor technologies, and enterprise or channel ecosystems.
  • Experience delivering technical training, product demonstrations, or solution enablement sessions.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business and sales value for partner audiences.
  • Strong consultative and relationship-building skills with a customer-focused mindset.
  • Ability to influence and guide partner technical and sales teams through advisory engagement.
  • Experience working in a channel, distributor, or vendor-driven environment preferred.
  • Proficiency with standard business tools and platforms including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
  • Ability to work independently with general supervision while consulting senior or specialist resources when needed.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills with attention to clarity and accuracy.
  • Recognized as a developing specialist with growing expertise in technical solutions and partner enablement.
