Job Summary:
This position supports the Hmoob Lub Neej project, and reports to Principal Investigators Michal Engelman and Maichou Lor. The Researcher II will work with the research team (faculty, academic staff, and student workers) and Hmong community partners to (1) facilitate outreach to community organization to coordinate focus groups and survey participation; (2) support qualitative analysis and manuscript writing; and (3) support the fielding of a survey collecting data on social determinants of health for Hmong older adults. The position will be partially remote with some travel.
Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Collects and analyzes increasingly complex research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures
  • Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, co-authors publications, and disseminates information to appropriate entities
  • Reviews and edits protocols to ensure accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency
  • Trains individuals and groups on equipment operations, research protocols, and techniques within a specialized laboratory or research area
  • Assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
  • Develops and implements increasingly complex research methodologies, procedures, and criteria

Social Science Research Services (SSRS) serves social science researchers in the College of Letters and Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, including the Department of Sociology. The central function of SSRS is to provide specialized, high-quality services to advance interdisciplinary social science research at the UW-Madison. SSRS provides primary support to researchers affiliated with the Center for Demography and Ecology (CDE) and Center for Demography of Health and Aging (CDHA).
Compensation:
The expected salary range for this position is $55,000 - $65,000 for experienced candidates. Actual pay within this range will depend on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:
  • Fluency in speaking, reading, and writing in the Hmong language (multiple dialects a plus)
  • Familiarity with qualitative or survey-based research.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of Hmong culture and history
  • Familiarity with public health research is a plus

Education:
Master's Degree in demographic or public health related field, required
