How much do mhpss jobs pay per hour?
What does a typical day look like for someone working in an MHPSS position?
A typical day for an MHPSS professional involves providing direct psychosocial support and counseling to individuals or groups, facilitating psychosocial activities, conducting assessments, and maintaining detailed case records. You may collaborate closely with healthcare providers, protection teams, community leaders, and sometimes coordinate with NGOs or governmental agencies. Regular debriefings, team meetings, and capacity-building workshops are common, ensuring you stay updated on best practices and maintain emotional well-being. The work environment can be dynamic, especially in humanitarian or crisis contexts, requiring both flexibility and self-care. This variety ensures meaningful engagement while supporting vulnerable communities in building resilience.
What is an MHPSS job?
An MHPSS (Mental Health and Psychosocial Support) job involves providing psychological and social support to individuals and communities affected by crises, such as conflicts, natural disasters, or displacement. Professionals in this field may offer counseling, group therapy, community-based interventions, and capacity-building activities. They work in various settings, including humanitarian organizations, NGOs, and healthcare institutions, to promote mental well-being and resilience. Responsibilities often include assessing needs, designing interventions, and collaborating with other health and social service providers.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Mhpss position, and why are they important?
To thrive in an MHPSS (Mental Health and Psychosocial Support) role, you need a background in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field, often with relevant professional licensure or certification. Familiarity with assessment tools, case management software, and trauma-informed care frameworks is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and emotional resilience help professionals excel in supporting diverse, often vulnerable populations. These competencies are crucial for delivering effective, ethical, and compassionate care in often challenging and high-stress humanitarian or community settings.
