Job description

Metropolitan Companies is looking for a Lumber Estimator to join our team! The Lumber Estimator is responsible for analyzing architectural blueprints and specifications to calculate the precise amount, type, and cost of wood and building materials required for multifamily construction projects. This position will report to the Director of Construction Services.   • Review blueprints, product specifications, and utilize company & preferred software to accurately determine time the amount, cost, and type of wood needed.
  • Work with architects as needed for changes, questions, etc. on blueprints and building plan documents.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates of materials by analyzing plans and specifications.
  • Utilize spreadsheets and company software to input dimensions and other data to calculate projected costs of proposed projects.
  • Source materials, compare supplier pricing, and track orders to ensure timely delivery to the job site.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, and personnel in other departments to discuss and formulate estimates.
  • Perform quality take-offs.
  • Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation for the duration of the project.
  • Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services through the duration of the project.
  • Send out bids and track actual costs relative to bids as project develops.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and required.
Competencies:
  • Ability to multi-task and estimate multiple projects at a time.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented.

Requirements:
  • HS diploma or GED
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred
  • 5+ years' experience estimating in the lumber industry
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Ability to travel to job sites as needed

Preferred:
  • 5 years' experience estimating in the commercial construction industry
  • Previous experience with Stack, Procore, Pro Est, Building Connected, Adobe, Revu, Bluebeam, AutoCAD/Auto Desk/MiTek
