Senior Test & Evaluation Lab Tech (Metrology & Calibration)

The Boeing Metrology and Test Equipment Services (MATES) organization is looking for an Senior Calibration Technician to join our Metrology team in Fort Greely, Alaska.

This role will be responsible for using calibration standards to calibrate, adjust, certify, maintain, and repair Measurement Test & Equipment (MT&E)/process equipment using approved calibration procedures, process specifications, equipment drawings, and M&TE /process equipment manufacturer's performance specifications.

In addition to Metrology responsibilities, this role may also involve activities including but not limited to: logistics associated with routing calibrated assets to remote Boeing labs and suppliers for calibration services (shippers, purchase contracts, follow-up and supplier backlog management). This position may also involve aspects of Test Asset Management and Property Management including asset tagging, redeployment, storage and surplus.

Metrology And Test Equipment Services (MATES) provide a full spectrum of test asset and metrology services and support for internal customers and products through all phases of the product lifecycle. Services include calibration/certification for dimensional/optics, electrical/electronic and mechanical/physical measurement and test assets, sourcing management, measurement solutions, repair & maintenance, test asset selection and use, acquisition, allocation, resource and lifecycle management, and specialized test services.

MATES is comprised of engineers, technicians and administrative personnel who support programs, sites, business units and external/government customers by providing best value test asset management and metrology services through all phases of the product lifecycle.

What is metrology? Metrology is the science of measurement. MATES is responsible for establishing an unbroken chain of measurement traceability from the point of application to internationally recognized standards, quantities, values or reference materials. Applied metrology at Boeing ensures that measurement standards, materials or equipment used to apply or determine measurement quantities are defined, repeatable, reproducible and traceable.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Plan, check, set up, and operate Measurement and Test Equipment (M&TE) and/or process equipment

  • Conduct routine tests, analyze data and document results

  • Troubleshoot and recommend resolution of basic laboratory and test-related problems

  • Update equipment status using established systems and complete associated paperwork

  • Ensure equipment is ready for calibration per metrology processes

  • Prioritize and perform work according to automated daily report list, hot list, or as assigned by lead technician

  • Perform visual check of M&TE/process equipment for discrepancies and wear

  • Identify, document, and route non-conforming items in accordance with metrology lab processes

  • Provide information and clarification to customers on metrology processes

  • Work with other employees engaged in the calibration and certification of M&TE, and assist in the development of new calibration processes and procedures

  • Perform computations necessary to analyze measurement test results

  • Perform logistics associated with routing calibrated assets to remote Boeing labs and suppliers for calibration services

  • Perform tasks associated with Test Asset Management and Property Management including asset tagging, redeployment, storage and surplus

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship

  • 3+ years of experience calibrating Measurement and Test Equipment (M&TE)

  • 3+ years of experience in test assets or metrology

  • 3+ years of experience using electronic test equipment

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Associate's degree or higher and/or related military training in electronics and/or Metrology

  • Metrology experience in electrical parameters (not to exclude other parameters)

  • 5+ years of experience in a calibration laboratory

  • An active U.S. Secret or higher Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
