Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
The Metrology organization provides measurement solutions and technical support that enable Global Manufacturing to characterize products, verify compliance, and sustain reliable operations across regions.
The Metrology Lab Supervisor leads Tier 2 metrology lab support, ensuring reliable measurement support for deployed systems, laboratory readiness, issue escalation, documentation control, and reliable support across dimensional, surface, CT-scan, and related platforms. This role works closely with manufacturing, development, quality, and global teams to support new product deployment and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate metrology lab activities, including workload prioritization, backlog follow-up, and second-level support for deployed measurement systems in manufacturing sites.
  • Ensure laboratory readiness through equipment availability, calibration, maintenance, vendor support, while promoting a safe, organized, and compliant lab environment.
  • Support qualification, deployment, and standardization of new metrology systems, methods, and best practices across sites.
  • Troubleshoot escalated issues related to measurement methods, system performance, repeatability, data quality, and equipment capability.
  • Provide leadership updates on operational status, metrics, budget, technical issues, and improvement opportunities.

Travel Requirements:
• 0-10% travel domestic and international (Mexico, USA, Poland, China)
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
• 40+ hours/week
Experiences/Education - Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Metrology, Quality, Computer Science, or related technical field.
  • 7+ years of experience in metrology, laboratory operations, manufacturing support, quality engineering, or related technical area.
  • Experience supporting deployed measurement systems in manufacturing, product development, or inspection environments.
  • Strong understanding of metrology principles and lab operations, with experience using advanced metrology platforms such as CMM, CT scan, and inspection systems.
  • Working knowledge of MSA, Gage R&R, SPC, control charts, and measurement uncertainty, including the ability to assess whether a measurement method is fit for use.
  • Experience working with vendors, external service providers, or calibration suppliers.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.

Experiences/Education - Desired
  • Experience supporting new product introduction, process or mold validation, technology transfer, or transition to manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with Minitab, Power BI, or similar tools for capability analysis and process improvement.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T and its application in dimensional measurement and inspection.
  • Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and hands-on problem-solving skills.
  • Experience supporting audits, compliance activities, or training technical personnel in metrology methods and best practices.

The range for this position is $131,667.00 - $181,043.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
