POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Metrology Lab Technician, under the administrative direction of the Corporate Director of Quality, performs dimensional measurements and documents the results.
ORGANIZATIONAL SUPERVISION, REPORTING AND INTERFACE
Position reports to the Corporate Director of Quality and works directly with the Production Supervisors and Engineers on measuring and testing of equipment and other members of the QA team at PM and MPN. The Metrology Lab Technician will also interface with other associates within the Peterson Manufacturing organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performing calibrations of measuring and test equipment (M&TE)
  • Conducting M&TE evaluations (e.g., gauge repeatability and reproducibility studies)
  • Performing dimensional inspections on components or products
  • Performing photometric testing and calibration
  • Documenting all calibrations, evaluations, inspections, and testing

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret drawings and procedures
  • Must have the ability to analyze laboratory results and prepare reports that accurately summarize findings
  • Must have effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Efficient with computer programs in MS Office, Adobe and Gage Track
  • Demonstrated dexterity and mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be able to work independently, evaluate alternative methodologies, prepare appropriate courses of action, and execute projects with limited supervision
  • Must be detail oriented and organized
  • Possess a cooperative attitude

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Completion of a technical training program of 18 months to 2 years, or equivalent education and experience
  • Experience using typical metrology tools and methods to perform precision measurements
  • Solid understanding of geometry and trigonometry principles
  • Experience working with coordinate measuring machines preferred, but can provide training
  • Experience working with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) preferre

ENVIRONMENT
  • Duties are performed indoors at the corporate offices in Grandview, MO.
  • Must be able to sit 50% of the time and stand 50% of the time
  • Must be able to regularly walk the length of the entire campus in a timely manner
  • Must be able to push a wheeled cart with a 50lb scale across campus.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40lbs
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, use stairs to access offices on other floors of building, etc.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with others (internal and external) who may have various inquiries, etc. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
