Experienced Test & Evaluation Engineer (Metrology)

The Boeing Company is seeking an Experienced Test & Evaluation Engineer (Metrology) to join the Boeing Test & Evaluation team, working in the Metrology and Test Equipment Services (MATES) group in Kennedy Space Center, FL. This opportunity will also involve working with local and enterprise MATES personnel to support Metrology operations in the Boeing Enterprise.

The successful candidate will join a geographically dispersed and multidisciplinary metrology engineering team that is responsible for developing and supporting measurement solutions in support of advanced manufacturing, product production, research and development and test & evaluation activities. This job is primarily to support the metrology engineering teams and the associated calibration labs within MATES. This role requires coordination with people in various time zones across the US and with all Boeing business units, including BCA, BDS, ET&T primarily. Traditional Engineering skills will be used to improve the development and deployment of engineering processing, software and tools, mathematical models, and the general aggregation and dissemination of enterprise-wide measurement solutions to support all of Boeing.

Metrology And Test Equipment Services (MATES) provides a full spectrum of test asset and metrology services and support for internal customers and products through all phases of the product lifecycle. Services include: calibration/certification of mechanical/physical, dimensional/optics, electrical and RF measurement equipment and test assets, sourcing management, measurement solutions, repair & maintenance, test asset selection and use, acquisition, allocation, resource and lifecycle management, and specialized test services.

MATES is comprised of engineers, technicians and administrative personnel who support programs, sites, business units and external/government customers by providing best value test asset management and metrology services through all phases of the product lifecycle. This role is primarily first shift; however, there may be additional shift requirements to support program objectives.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Plan, check, set up, and operate Measurement and Test Equipment (M&TE) and/or process equipment

  • Conduct routine tests, analyze data and document results

  • Troubleshoot and recommend resolution of basic laboratory and test-related problems

  • Update equipment status using established systems and complete associated paperwork

  • Ensure equipment is ready for calibration per metrology processes

  • Prioritize and perform work according to automated daily report list, hot list, or as assigned by lead technician

  • Perform visual check of M&TE/process equipment for discrepancies and wear

  • Identify, document, and route non-conforming items in accordance with metrology lab processes

  • Provide information and clarification to customers on metrology processes

  • Work with other employees engaged in the calibration and certification of M&TE, and assist in the development of new calibration processes and procedures

  • Perform computations necessary to analyze measurement test results

  • Perform logistics associated with routing calibrated assets to remote Boeing labs and suppliers for calibration services

  • Perform tasks associated with Test Asset Management and Property Management including asset tagging, redeployment, storage and surplus

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An interim U.S. Secret Clearance Pre-Start and final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

  • 3+ years of experience in metrology, and/or calibration/certification, and/or instrumentation

  • 3+ years of experience in the use of electronic measurement and test equipment

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of experience developing and executing calibration procedures

  • 3+ years of experience performing statistical analysis

  • 3+ years of experience in project management

  • 3+ years of experience using any of the following Measurement & Test Equipment (M&TE) electrical: DC, Low Frequency & RF

  • Experience with calibration and maintenance of Metrology lab M&TE

  • Experience communicating with customers in a clear and concise manner about technical details of a calibration process

  • Experience with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft office applications

  • Experience with electrical, microwave, and/or RF calibrations

  • Familiarity with torque, pressure, force, mass, temperature, humidity, electrical/RF parameters

  • Prior experience with use of an automated calibration recall system
