SUMMARY

The Inbound & Inventory Control Manager is responsible for overseeing all inbound receiving activities and ensuring end‑to‑end inventory accuracy within a fast‑paced 3PL warehouse environment. As a key member of the Operations leadership team, this role ensures inventory integrity from receipt to storage, supports customer commitments, and drives process discipline, continuous improvement, and strong operational controls.

This role partners closely with Operations, Quality, IT/WMS, and Customer teams to identify root causes of inventory variances, implement corrective actions, and ensure inbound workflows and inventory controls are executed to standard across shifts.


Key Responsibilities

Inbound Operations

  • Lead and manage all inbound receiving activities, including scheduling, unloading, verification, system receipt, and putaway readiness.
  • Ensure inbound receipts are executed accurately and on time in line with customer SLAs and contractual requirements.
  • Partner with Transportation, Planning, and Operations teams to manage dock utilization and inbound capacity.
  • Investigate and resolve inbound discrepancies (shortages, overages, damages, mislabeling) and ensure proper system and customer visibility.
  • Support new customer onboarding by defining inbound processes, requirements, and WMS setup.

Inventory Control & Accuracy

  • Own overall inventory accuracy and integrity across the facility.
  • Lead cycle count programs, empty bin audits, location audits, and coordinate physical inventories as required.
  • Research inventory variances, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Process and validate inventory adjustments, claims, and transactions within the WMS.
  • Ensure item master data, slotting profiles, and warehouse locations are correctly set up and maintained.

Systems, Reporting & Compliance

  • Act as the subject matter expert for inventory and inbound processes within the WMS.
  • Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs), customer-specific requirements, and internal controls.
  • Prepare and present inventory, inbound, and variance reports to Operations Leadership and customers.
  • Support internal and external audits related to inventory and inbound controls.

Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead, coach, and develop Inventory Control and Inbound teams, including performance management and succession planning.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to improve productivity, accuracy, and service levels.
  • Identify process gaps and lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean / CI principles.
  • Promote a safe, clean, and compliant work environment aligned with Metro Supply Chain Group values.

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in Inventory Control and/or Inbound Operations within a warehouse or 3PL environment.
  • Proven experience managing inventory accuracy, cycle counts, and inventory audits.
  • Strong understanding of warehouse operations, inbound workflows, and WMS functionality.
  • Experience working in multi‑client 3PL facilities preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated root cause problem‑solving capability.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong reporting / data analysis capability.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interface directly with customers.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and influence cross‑functional partners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Blue Yonder or similar Tier 1 WMS platforms.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement training or certification.


EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain or Business preferred. Direct experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum five (5) years hands on experience in Inventory Control using a Warehouse Management System, preferably Red Prairie (RP)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of logistics, supply chain, manufacturing or packaging experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience supervising or managing employee
