Responsibilities

The Ambulatory Float Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works in variety of dynamic specialty clinics and primary care including, but not limited to, the following locations:  Baldwin, Gonda, Mayo Clinic, NE Clinic, NW Clinic, SE Clinic, and Kasson.  Ambulatory floats provide direct patient care to support the unique needs of the clinical practice. The LPN role in the float practice consists of assisting with patient visits by providing support in a variety of ways including assisting with procedures, rooming patients, administering immunizations, among other skills related to direct patient care.  The Ambulatory Float Pool supports 16 different LPN practices serving patients from pediatrics through adulthood.  An individual LPN within the Ambulatory Float Pool will train and work in six to ten different practices, specialties, or locations based on FTE and practice mix.  Hours are Monday through Friday, with varied start times from 7-8 am.  The majority of the schedule is 7:45-4:45 based on unit need.

The licensed practical nurse (LPN) provides nursing care to assigned patients under the direct supervision of the registered nurse (RN) or other assigned supervisor and accepts delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor in meeting the needs of the patient/family. The LPN collects data through observation and communicates information to assist the RN and/or provider in patient assessment and care planning. The LPN participates as a member of the health care team and accepts delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor and provider in meeting needs of the patient/family. The LPN delivers care in accordance with the patient care plan, policies and procedures of the organization and principles of relationship-based care. The LPN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and instructing; and may participate on committees or projects, including quality improvement projects.


Qualifications

Graduate of a school of practical nursing or passed LPN Boards after a defined period in a professional nursing program (e.g., some states allow RN students to take the LPN board exam after completing one to two years in the RN program). If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of LPN experience working in an applicable setting is required.

One year LPN experience within the last five years preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).  Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Ability to work daytime hours, flexibility may be required to meet staffing needs. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing preferred.

Additional Qualifications:

Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the clinical and/or research settings. Able to work effectively with multiple members of the interdisciplinary care team. Demonstrates strong, effective and open communication skills to achieve mutual understanding and build trust and rapport with team members. Able to work in a rapidly changing environment while participating in developing innovative and creative solutions to patient care. Excels in creative experimentation and is able to explore new paths, procedures, and/or approaches to models of care teams. Displays flexibility in adapting and coping with accelerated changes within the environment.

License or Certification:

Current LPN license by applicable state requirements.

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) for healthcare providers - certificate of course completion required and must not expire within 90 days after start date.  A scanned copy of the certificate of completion or transcripts, including your full name, must be attached to your profile to be considered.

  • American Heart Association (Title: BLS for Healthcare Providers or BLS Provider)
