Position Description: In order to ensure compliance with the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) the Company is required to have a plan to test a portion of existing residential meters for accuracy. The Gas Meter Technician will perform accuracy and quality assurance testing procedures on small, medium and large gas meters; both commercial and residential meters.
Position-Related Responsibilities:
  • Perform accuracy testing procedures using meter proving equipment (in test & out test) on small, medium and large gas commercial and residential meters.
  • Perform in-testing of new meter inventory.
  • Performs necessary meter scrap functions to safely and efficiently dispose of meters no longer considered an asset.
  • Maintain electronic records of gas meter testing data.
  • Performs accuracy testing of meters requested by customers.
  • Enters meter information into computer database using keyboard/mouse.
  • Prepares gas meter testing data and submits reports to Asset Management Team monthly.
  • Operates forklift to move meter baskets to and from yard and meter shop area.
  • Operates and performs basic maintenance functions of sonic nozzle meter prover (SNAP and Model 5 transfer prover).
  • Maintains a clean workshop and storage area.
  • Performs meter inventories as needed.
  • When necessary, will transport meters between districts in flatbed transport vehicle.
  • All other related duties as required.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Basic computer, technical skills and Excel knowledge.
  • Techniques and procedures for using gas meter provers to test meter preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Basic knowledge of operation/functions of gas meters.
  • Ability to maintain work schedule without direct supervision.
  • Move or carry heavy loads up to 50 lbs.
  • Required to be on feet for long periods of the day.
  • Safely operate forklift and flatbed transport vehicle.
  • Maintain a valid Arizona driver's license.

Minimum Education
  • High school diploma or GED.
