We are hiringa Metallurgical Laboratory Engineer to work in Dearborn, MI.

Job Description:

This position is for a Metallurgical Laboratory Engineer at Central Laboratory with expertise in analysis of metallic components and mechanical testing. This is a full-time on-site position where the candidate will work as an expert resource for related issues in a laboratory environment. This position comes with the possibility of conversion into the Ford Full Time Salaried Laboratory UAW workforce.

Primary Responsibilities:

Many of the primary responsibilities for this position would include the following:

Provide failure analysis and material evaluation of automotive components and manufacturing equipment in support of product launches, vehicle teams, and engineering.

Prepare and evaluate metallic samples using ASTM, SAE, and local test methods.

Prepare electronic reports with results, photo-documentation, and conclusions on a timely basis.

Regularly communicate testing results during meetings with engineers and suppliers.

Operate and maintain a variety of analytical instrumentation and physical testing equipment including, but not limited to, sample preparation equipment, hardness and tensile testers, SEM/EDS, XRF, OE, and metallographs.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND /OR SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of Bachelor of Science in Metallurgy/Materials Science or related field of study is required

  • Experience with metallographic

  • materials testing including microstructures, SEM/EDS, and mechanical testing.

  • Experience with failure analysis testing including optical microscopy and SEM analysis techniques as well as mechanical testing

  • Experience writing technical reports

  • Demonstrate ability to:

  • Apply quality assurance/quality control principles

  • Design experiments

  • Develop new analytical testing methods

  • Recommend & implement new instrumentation & techniques

  • Maintain analytical instrumentation

  • Act as a technical resource for group related issues

  • Multitask and handle complex technical issues

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with others
