Job description

The Metal Finisher is primarily responsible for grinding, filing, or sanding surfaces of metal items or parts.


  • Examines and feels surface of metal to detect defects such as dents, scratches, or breaks in metal.
  • Removes dents, using hammer and dolly block, and fills uneven surface with molten solder.
  • Smooths surface of item to specified finish, using handtools and powered tools.
  • May polish metal surface, using powered polishing wheel or belt.
  • Examines finished work pieces to verify conformance with specifications according to operator inspection sheet, quality control plans and/or customer notes using instruments such as gauges.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate and plant safety standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrated detail orientation, self motivation skills and ability to multi-task
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats
  • Competent at basic dimensional measuring and able to quickly learn the use of precision measurement tools.
  • Demonstrated competency in basic shop math.
  • Previous experience with overhead crane use is desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively implement or respond to change.
  • Work in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Aptitude to take orders and execute the same efficiently.
  • Demonstrated detail orientation, self motivation skills and ability to multi-task.
