About Us
The University System of Georgia (USG) is comprised of 25 higher education institutions as well as the University System Office (USO). Within the USO, our administrative operations are primarily housed in the Trinity Washington Building located in downtown Atlanta. Our Information Technology Services (ITS) division is located in Athens. The University System of Georgia Shared Services Center (SSC) is located in Sandersville. The Georgia Public Library System is located in Atlanta. The Georgia Archives is located in Morrow. The State of Georgia Records Center is located in Austell.
Location
The Georgia Archives is located at 5800 Jonesboro Road, Morrow, next to the Southeastern Branch of the National Archives and Clayton State University.
The Georgia Archives is a unit of the University System of Georgia In addition to the main facility in Morrow, which holds about 90,000 cubic feet of permanent records, we have a records center holding about 160,000 cubic feet of non-permanent records in Austell. We have a staff of twenty-one full-time employees in Morrow and four full-time employees at the records center.
Job Summary
This position provides administrative and technical support for the operation of the Original Document Reading Area in the Reference Room of the Georgia Archives.. Activities generally include creating spreadsheets, pulling and refiling records, arranging and rehousing records, performing data entry, recordkeeping, scanning/printing records, and assisting with monitoring the use of the Original Document Reading Area.
Responsibilities
  1. Greets visitors and provides information and assistance, answering questions about policies and records.
  2. Assists with monitoring patrons' use of original records, ensuring they follow handling guidelines to protect materials.
  3. Maintains files and records.
  4. Maintains assigned computerized databases.
  5. Retrieves records requested by patrons or staff efficiently and accurately.
  6. Compiles records as needed for research or administrative purposes, ensuring completeness and correctness.
  7. Distributes records to the appropriate individuals or locations promptly.
  8. Refiles records in their proper locations, maintaining the organization and integrity of the archive.
  9. Operates scanning equipment to digitize records accurately and efficiently.
  10. Ensures that scanned images are clear, properly aligned, and free from distortions.
  11. Uses image editing software to enhance the quality of digital records, including adjusting brightness, contrast, and clarity.
  12. Ensures that enhancements maintain the integrity and authenticity of the original records.
  13. Organizes and labels scanned files systematically.
  14. Systematically arrange archival records according to archival theory and practice, ensuring logical and accessible organization.
  15. Prepare descriptions and metadata for archival records, adhering to established standards.
  16. Rehouse items in archival-quality materials to prevent further deterioration and ensure long-term preservation.
  17. Assists with preparing spaces for meetings and events.
  18. Performs related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree required.
  • More than one year of experience performing clerical or administrative work in an office environment required.

Preferred Qualifications
• Prefer Bachelor's degree with archival coursework and/or Attendance at Georgia Archives Institute
