Job description

Meta is seeking an Associate General Counsel, Head of Trademarks, to lead the protection, enforcement, and strategic management of some of the world's most recognized brands-Meta, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. This is a people-leadership role with direct accountability for a team of attorneys and legal professionals, the global trademark portfolio, and the programs that safeguard Meta's brand equity across its family of companies and apps. This position reports to the Director and Associate General Counsel, Head of Domains, Marketing, and Trademarks Legal.
Responsibilities
Lead trademark clearance, prosecution, and portfolio strategy for Meta's global brand assets, including new product and feature names, logos, and acquired marks
• Direct brand enforcement efforts to protect Meta's trademarks from third-party use or registration of similar marks across global markets
• Evaluate company products and features to provide practical, business-focused advice for managing global trademark and brand risk
• Provide strategic trademark counsel to senior leadership and partner cross-functionally with product, engineering, policy, and business teams on brand-related matters
• Proactively identify, evaluate, and mitigate legal risks in a fast-paced, evolving environment
• Manage the trademark budget, identify efficiency opportunities, and ensure cost-effective delivery of the program
• Manage relationships with outside counsel to ensure compliance with service level expectations and quality standards
• Serve as the strategic subject-matter expert to product counsel on complex trademark licensing matters, including co-branding, partner use of company marks, and novel licensing structures
• Navigate novel legal issues at the intersection of trademarks, intellectual property, marketing, and technology
Minimum Qualifications
• J.D. (or foreign equivalent) with membership in at least one U.S. state bar
• 10+ years of legal experience with significant depth in trademark law (clearance, prosecution, enforcement, disputes, and portfolio strategy)
• Experience leading or managing a trademark function in-house at a global technology company, or equivalent experience in a top-tier IP practice serving major brand owners
• Demonstrated ability to build, lead, or evolve a trademark program to meet changing business needs
• Experience in trademark licensing, including the ability to provide strategic guidance on complex licensing issues to product and transactional counsel in a fast-moving technology environment
• Experience in managing or working with outside counsel on trademark matters
• Experience in managing and developing a team of attorneys and/or legal professionals
Preferred Qualifications
• Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
• Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
• Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
• Experience managing or overseeing trademark litigation, including working with outside counsel on enforcement and defense matters
• Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
• Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
• Experience operating at the intersection of trademark, advertising/marketing law, and product counseling
• Experience with brand protection at scale, including online enforcement and anti-counterfeiting measures
• Familiarity with domain name matters and related brand protection mechanisms
• Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
• Experience with trademark strategy in emerging technology areas (AI, XR, hardware)
