Job description

Position Summary

Merit Coffee is seeking a motivated and dependable Assistant Maintenance Tech to join our Operations team in San Antonio. This is an entry-level position designed for someone who enjoys working with their hands, solving problems, and learning new skills.

No prior maintenance or equipment repair experience is required. The ideal candidate will work directly under the guidance of our Facilities & Equipment Manager, learning how to maintain café equipment, perform repairs, and support the overall operation of our coffee shops.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in maintenance, equipment repair, facilities, or operations.

What You'll Do

Equipment Support

Assist with the maintenance and repair of café equipment, including espresso machines, grinders, brewers, refrigerators, and other operational equipment.

Learn troubleshooting techniques for common equipment issues.

Perform routine preventative maintenance tasks under supervision.

Help maintain equipment maintenance records and service logs.

Facilities Maintenance

Assist with minor repairs and maintenance projects at café locations.

Support upkeep of café interiors, exteriors, and operational spaces.

Help coordinate and monitor vendor visits and service appointments.

Ensure cafés remain safe, clean, and operational.

Operational Support

Travel to café locations throughout the San Antonio market as needed.

After completing training and developing proficiency in the role, occasionally travel to Houston and other Merit Coffee markets to assist with maintenance needs, equipment installations, store openings, and special projects.

Assist with new equipment installations and café improvement projects.

Help maintain inventory of tools, supplies, and replacement parts.

Respond to maintenance requests and support urgent repair needs.

Team Collaboration

Work closely with café managers and leadership teams.

Learn company equipment standards and maintenance procedures.

Communicate repair status and maintenance updates effectively.

Maintain a positive, professional attitude while representing Merit Coffee in all locations.

Qualifications

Required

High school diploma or equivalent.

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Ability to travel between café locations throughout the San Antonio area and occasionally to other markets as business needs require.

Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.

Ability to follow instructions and work independently once trained.

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical work, including bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and standing for extended periods.

Preferred (Not Required)

Experience using basic hand and power tools.

General mechanical aptitude.

Previous experience in retail, food service, construction, maintenance, automotive, HVAC, or other hands-on environments.
