Job Details

The Lifeguard position is responsible for ensuring and promoting pool safety by enforcing facility rules, being alert and focused on pool users, recognizing emergency situations, and providing life saving measures in case of emergency. This position also requires pool pH and chlorine testing & usage tracking daily. The goal of this position is to provide a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment for our students and members.

Job Description

Job Duties

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Monitor pool, sauna, and deck areas to ensure safe facility usage by identifying hazards, enforcing safety rules, responding to emergencies through water rescues, lifesaving measures, and first aid assistance as needed, and reporting safety concerns to appropriate supervisors or Facilities Services in accordance with certification guidelines and facility procedures.
  • Facility Operations: Complete daily facility operational tasks including tracking usage, monitoring and recording temperature, pH, and chlorine levels, conducting water testing, performing opening and closing procedures, assisting with aquatic events as needed, and providing effective communication and positive customer service to students and members.
  • Cleaning & Sanitization: Complete cleaning duties including but not limited to sanitizing surfaces, rinsing pool mats, skimming, operating the pool vacuum, sanitizing the sauna, and organizing the aquatic space.
  • Departmental: Attend department meetings, trainings, and audits as required and assist with other tasks as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Less than 1 year lifeguard experience and experience with pool chemical testing process.
  • FA - First Aid Certificate - American Red Cross


Additional Qualifications

  • Accredited Lifeguard Certification: American Red Cross, Ellis & Associates (ILTP), StarGuard Elite, YMCA Lifeguard, or American Aquatics and Safety Training (AA&ST)


Physical Demands
Lift over 50 lbs. Push/pull up to 140 lbs. Carry 80 lbs. short distances. Frequent standing/walking, squatting, kneeling, crawling, climbing and reaching overhead.
