Analyst, Merchandising (Frozen Food & Ice Cream)

Position Summary

The Merchandising Team is seeking a highly analytical, detail-oriented Analyst, Merchandising to support the Front Store Merchandising organization within the Frozen Food & Ice Cream categories. This role is critical to shaping customer experience across more than 7,000 stores by delivering compelling assortments, promotions, and merchandising strategies that drive sales, profitability, and customer engagement.

The Analyst will leverage data, market insights, and supplier partnerships to identify growth opportunities, optimize category performance, and support key merchandising initiatives. This position plays a vital role in managing Direct Store Delivery (DSD) relationships, analyzing category trends, evaluating promotional effectiveness, and ensuring operational excellence across high-volume, temperature-sensitive product categories.

Key Responsibilities

Category Strategy & Analytics

  • Analyze sales performance, customer trends, assortment productivity, and category profitability to identify opportunities for growth and optimization.
  • Monitor and evaluate key business metrics, including sales, margin, contribution profit, spoilage, sell-through, and promotional effectiveness.
  • Conduct market, competitive, and consumer research to identify emerging trends, seasonal opportunities, and customer preferences within the Frozen Food and Ice Cream categories.
  • Develop actionable recommendations to improve category performance, merchandising execution, and customer engagement.

Promotion Planning & Execution

  • Support the development and execution of promotional programs designed to drive awareness, traffic, sales, and profitability.
  • Assist in the creation and review of promotional content, including circulars, digital advertising, loyalty offers, point-of-sale materials, and other marketing collateral.
  • Measure promotional performance through KPI tracking, ROI analysis, and post-event reporting, providing recommendations for future optimization.
  • Support digital merchandising initiatives, including online promotions, digital circulars, and loyalty-driven activations.

DSD Supplier Management

  • Manage relationships with Direct Store Delivery (DSD) suppliers, serving as a key partner in supporting category performance initiatives.
  • Develop and distribute weekly store-SKU level sales reporting and performance scorecards for DSD partners.
  • Monitor ordering accuracy, inventory productivity, in-stock conditions, spoilage trends, and markdown exposure to improve supplier performance.
  • Analyze DSD profitability metrics and provide recommendations to optimize assortment, localization, and replenishment strategies.

Merchandising Operations

  • Coordinate new item setup, maintenance, and execution for planogram and seasonal assortment changes.
  • Manage off-shelf merchandising programs, including vendor coordination, program setup, performance tracking, and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and ad hoc analyses that communicate key business insights to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Identify risks, develop mitigation plans, and support execution of merchandising initiatives from concept through implementation.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Merchandising, Marketing, Inventory Management, Store Operations, Analytics, and supplier partners to align business strategies and execution.
  • Present insights and recommendations to stakeholders and senior leadership through clear, data-driven storytelling.
  • Actively contribute to team discussions, strategic planning sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 2+ years of experience in retail, consumer packaged goods (CPG), merchandising, category management, marketing, analytics, or a related corporate environment.
  • 2+ years of experience analyzing business performance and translating data into actionable recommendations.
  • Experience supporting promotional, pricing, merchandising, or product strategy initiatives.
  • Experience building reports, dashboards, and leadership-facing presentations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends, diagnose issues, and drive solutions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Power BI.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%, as business needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in retail merchandising, category management, CPG, marketing analytics, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting Frozen, Refrigerated, Grocery, Convenience, or Consumer-Packaged Goods categories.
  • Experience working with Direct Store Delivery (DSD) suppliers and programs.
  • Advanced Excel and Power BI skills, including dashboard development and data visualization.
  • Experience conducting market research, competitive analysis, and customer insights work.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders through data and business recommendations.
  • Strong project management skills with experience managing multiple deliverables simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and drive business results.
  • Growth mindset with a passion for continuous learning and process improvement.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$43,888.00 - $93,574.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
