Founded in 1873, Dignity Health - Mercy Medical Center is a 186-bed, acute care, nonprofit hospital located in Merced, California. Serving over 150,000 patients annually, the hospital offers a full complement of services including a Level II NICU, heart care, the Mercy Cancer Center, and a family birth center. As a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), you will be a cornerstone of patient care, directly contributing to comfort, safety, and recovery by providing essential support under RN direction.
Every day, you will deliver compassionate basic care, assist with patient transport, and actively contribute to the patient's plan of care as a vital member of our interdisciplinary team, upholding the highest standards of conduct and patient well-being.
To be successful in this role, you will possess a dedicated spirit of service, strong communication skills, a meticulous approach to patient support, and an unwavering commitment to our mission of dignified, high-quality healthcare.

  • Staff provide care that respects the religious, cultural, linguistic, and ethnic belief systems of patients and their families by utilizing and documenting interpreter services as needed, ensuring zero breaches of privacy or patient rights through consistent adherence to facility policies and direct competency assessment

  • Staff perform age-appropriate data collection, pain assessment, and clinical monitoring for patients ranging from infants to geriatrics, ensuring that 95% of documentation is accurate and that any significant abnormalities, fall risks, or signs of abuse are immediately reported to the RN to meet safety and quality standards.

  • Planning and implementation duties are carried out as delegated by the RN, requiring staff to organize and prioritize tasks, maintain strict infection control, execute protocols such as daily weights and intake/output records, and provide ongoing communication regarding any obstacles to patient care or changes in a patient's condition

  • Staff maintain a safe and secure environment by performing timely patient care rounds, managing room clutter, adhering to visitor security policies, and providing essential assistance during bedside procedures or post-operative care, with performance validated by zero incidents of failure to assist or follow established facility procedures

  • Staff serve as a primary point of education for patients and families—covering room orientation, visitation policies, and daily routines—while proactively reporting learning barriers or language needs to the RN, with competency in these areas confirmed by regular audits and the consistent application of developmental and cultural best practices


Required

  • Nurse Assistant Certification completion, or
  • completion of a nursing fundamentals class and are currently enrolled in nursing school, or a graduate from a nursing program, or
  • Certified Nursing Assistant: CA 
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - CPR 
  • Must be able to take call, float to other areas, and work on weekends as required


Preferred

  • Minimum of six (6) months experience in acute care or skilled facility

Please be advised that this location requires quarterly American Heart Association (AHA) Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) competency certification post-hire.  This ongoing competency is required through resources internal to the facility; outside RQI competency resources are not acceptable for CommonSpirit Health compliance requirements.
