The Aparecio Foundation is a nonprofit organization that was designed as an economic development strategy to lift women out of poverty and as a community development approach to build the leadership capacity of low-income women. The Aparecio Foundation provides academic support and scholarship programs for high-potential, low-income women in public high schools through an eight-year multiple-mentor program.

This is a unpaid Volunteer / Intern position.

Job Description

Assist the Mentoring Program Director in managing the administration of the "Mentor Me" program onsite.  Manage program evaluation efforts. Provide guidance to mentors and mentees to ensure that both groups understand their responsibilities and have a rewarding mentoring relationship. Organize and help facilitate mentor/mentee orientation and training sessions, and provide ongoing support.

Description of Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Plan and conduct mentor training programs and conferences dealing with mentoring policies, procedures, activities, and requirements.

  • Observe work of mentors to evaluate performance, and to recommend changes that could strengthen mentoring skills.

  • Confer with members of advisory groups to obtain knowledge of subject areas, and to relate program materials to specific subjects, individual student needs, and occupational areas.

  • Research, evaluate, and prepare recommendations on program development and evaluations.

  • Conduct or participate in workshops, committees, and conferences designed to promote the intellectual, social, and physical welfare of mentees.

  • Advise mentoring staff in program development, use of materials and equipment, and implementation of state and federal programs and procedures.

  • Advise and teach mentees and mentors as needed.

  • Organize production and design of program materials.

  • Recommend, order, or authorize purchase of instructional materials, supplies, equipment, and visual aids designed to meet student educational needs.

Qualifications

Job Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Knowledge is defined as the acquisition of information stored in memory through experience and learning.

  • Skills represent the practical aspect of knowledge. The implementation of knowledge in daily tasks that can be acquired or developed through training is termed as skill.  

  • Lastly, ability is characterized as the stable and abstract behavioral and cognitive capacity.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree (required), Master's Degree (preferred); emphasis on social work, sociology, psychology, or education

  • 2 or more years experience with nonprofit program administration (i.e., mentoring, education, volunteer management, etc.)

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills

  • Experience with a gender-specific mentoring program (required)

  • Able to devote 40 hours/week 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
