Job description

nEye.ai, a well-funded optical switch startup, is poised to revolutionize the future of data centers. nEye's MEMS-based silicon photonics optical circuit switches (OCS) eliminate critical bottlenecks in AI processing by enabling direct optical connections among thousands of GPUs and memory units. The company's SuperSwitch is an ultra-low power consumption, high radix, compact chip-scale design, offering hyperscale data centers enhanced performance, efficiency, and scalability.
Job Overview
As a Senior MEMS Design Engineer at nEye.ai, you will be responsible for the design, simulation, and optimization of MEMS devices that are critical components of our optical circuit switches. This role involves both technical execution and collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams. You'll work closely with Silicon Photonics, Mechanical, and Process Engineers to ensure our MEMS structures are not only high-performing but also robust and reliable for high-volume manufacturing. Your expertise in multi-physics modeling will be key to optimizing our designs and solving complex challenges.
Key Responsibilities
  • MEMS Design & Optimization: Design and model MEMS structures, focusing on performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Multi-Physics Simulation: Utilize multi-physics models (e.g., mechanical, electro-mechanical, fluid dynamics) to simulate device behavior and optimize designs.
  • Collaboration & Problem-Solving: (1) Work with internal teams to understand failure mechanisms and design for low FIT (failures in time) rates. (2) Troubleshoot fabrication issues and act as a liaison between the design team and foundry process engineers to resolve problems.
  • Product Lifecycle: (1) Contribute to the full product lifecycle, from initial concept and design through to high-volume manufacturing and qualification testing. (2) Design for Yield improvement

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Master's or PhD degree in Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in MEMS design with a focus on product experience.
  • Experience with the design and fabrication of devices with nano-scale features.
  • Demonstrated experience in optimizing MEMS structures for performance and reliability using multi-physics models.
  • Deep understanding of failure mechanisms in MEMS devices.
  • Proficiency with 3D-CAD software and Finite Element Simulation software (e.g. COMSOL).
  • Experience in analytical mechanical design focusing on stress/strain relationships in MEMS designs and wafer processing
  • Deep knowledge of semiconductor fabrication processes and cleanroom practices.
  • Strong familiarity using AI tools (e.g., LLMs, copilots) to accelerate engineering workflows, debugging, and problem-solving.

Preferred Skills
  • Experience with the design and fabrication of optical MEMS structures and the surface-micromachining process.
  • Experience in MEMS design for reliability.
  • Experience with advanced packaging technologies and their integration into the foundry process.
  • Experience in a fabless or semiconductor design company.
  • Strong communication and technical documentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences.

$180,000 - $260,000 a year
