AAFP is seeking an Executive Director, AAFP Foundation & Vice President Development to provide executive leadership and overall management of the AAFP Foundation, the 501(c)(3) philanthropic arm of the American Academy of Family Physicians. As Executive Director, the individual sets and executes the AAFP Foundation's strategic, fundraising and stewardship direction across the individual, corporate, and planning- giving sources and oversees the Foundation's signature humanitarian, educational and scientific programs. This position leads the AAFP's engagement with private, family, and corporate foundations to secure grant funding for Academy strategic priorities.

This position reports to the AAFP Executive Vice President/CEO with primary accountability to the AAFP Foundation Board of Trustees.This individual serves as Secretary of AAFP Board of Trustees and provides overall day-to-day leadership, management and administration of the AAFP Foundation.The individual also serves on the AAFP Insurance Services Board.

The Foundation manages an annual operating budget of approximately $4M, and a total asset base exceeding $30M, generated through investment returns, subsidiary earnings, corporate support, individual giving and grants. This role manages a team of nine employees.

This position requires the successful candidate to reside within the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business administration, public administration finance, communication, or a related field preferred.
  • 5-10 years of executive leadership experience within a non-profit, healthcare, association, foundation or mission-driven organization.
  • Proven success in fundraising, donor development, grant acquisition, and relationship management.
  • Demonstrated experience working with governing boards and volunteer leadership.
  • Strong financial management, strategic planning, and organizational leadership skills.
  • Exceptional communication, relationship-building and executive presence.
  • Commitment to ethical fundraising and mission-driven leadership.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) credential.
  • Experience with major gifts, planning giving, corporate partnerships and foundation grantmaking.
  • Background in healthcare, medical associations, philanthropy, educational nonprofits.
  • Experience overseeing large-scale fundraising and stewardship programs.
