Job DescriptionSummary:

The Furnace Operator is responsible for melting and refining metals, preparing them for casting. Furnace Operators operate furnaces, monitor temperatures, analyze samples, and ensure materials meet specifications. This role requires understanding of furnace operations, safety procedures, and the ability to use various tools for measurement and analysis

Role and Responsibilities              
  • Prepare scrap metals for melting
  • Weigh specific amounts of material for furnace charge, and load into induction melting furnace
  • Responsible for operating an induction melting furnace
  • Extract test samples from molten metal
  • Verify chemistry of material
  • Skim slag from surface molten metal, using scoop
  • Operate and monitor furnace(s) per procedures and instructions
  • Track and maintain adequate inventory of foundry products
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards including use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), remove hazards as identified, and maintain cleanliness of the facility
Qualifications & Physical Demands:
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1-3 years foundry experience
  • Experience in scrap industry preferred
  • Metallurgy training or coursework a plus
  • Experience operating an induction furnace preferred
  • Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Basic math and reading skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs frequently
  • Must be able to work in an environment where routinely exposed to dust, dirt, vibrations, extreme climate and changes in weather
  • The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
