Job Summary
The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, invites applications for a full-time (12-month) Clinical or Tenure-Track position in Cardiology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will join an established clinical service, which includes one tenured faculty, one tenure-track faculty, three nurses, and four cardiology residents.

Our comparative cardiovascular medicine and interventional cardiology service is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including digital ECG, GE Vivid E95 echocardiography with a digital database and three review stations, portable GE Vivid iq, pediatric and adult 4D TEE probes, and Medtronic and St. Jude/Abbott pacemaker programmers. We also offer hemostatic assays, including thromboelastography and platelet aggregometry.
The service operates a dedicated 650 ft² stand-alone interventional catheterization lab with advanced technology, such as an invasive hemodynamic recording system, cardiac output computers, and a Philips Zenition 70 Pulsera digital flat panel detector C-arm. Recently, we upgraded to a state-of-the-art cardiac EP lab featuring the Abbott EnSite System, which includes a next-generation 3D mapping platform and in-person support from mappers and collaborating MDs in Indianapolis.
We handle a high volume of interventional cases, approximately 70-100 annually. Our strong relationships with local referring veterinarians, breeders and rescue groups lead to a significant caseload focused on screening, diagnosing, and managing animals with congenital cardiac defects.
The Purdue University Veterinary Hospital has completed a major expansion project. Encompassing 162,500 square feet, the new David and Bonnie Brunner Purdue Veterinary Medical Hospital Complex includes three components located just east of the existing Lynn Hall of Veterinary Medicine:
• The David and Bonnie Brunner Small Animal Hospital (adding 65,000 square feet to the existing small animal
hospital facilities in Lynn Hall)
• The David and Bonnie Brunner Equine Hospital
• The David and Bonnie Brunner Farm Animal Hospital
The new complex provides state of the art teaching facilities dedicated to educating the next generation of veterinary professionals, enabling faculty to provide top quality compassionate animal health care, and serve as a catalyst for interdisciplinary clinical research.
Qualifications
Qualifications for the position include a DVM or equivalent degree and board certification or completion of a cardiology residency program registered by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) or the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM). Individuals currently in an ACVIM or ECVIM approved training program and with an interest in an academic career are encouraged to apply. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience. A background check will be required for employment in this position.
Job Responsibilities
The successful candidate will actively participate in the learning, discovery and engagement activities of the College and Department. These activities include: Service and Engagement: Clinical duties will include primary case responsibility, training of cardiology residents, teaching of veterinary and veterinary nursing students, provision of consultation to other services within the hospital, and participation in the extension cardiology service. Learning: Emphasis will be on clinical training of DVM students, house officers, and veterinary nursing students. Participation in didactic teaching is also expected. Discovery: Clinical track faculty are expected to participate in and contribute to collaborative research that complements and builds on current interests and strengths of the cardiovascular medicine service, department, and College. Tenure track faculty are expected to develop an independent research program in cardiology. The College is highly supportive of individual faculty career growth and development and there is a formal faculty mentoring program in place.
