Job Summary

The Un'ina Navigator is responsible for registering un'ina (patients) in all Electronic Health Records (EHRs) across all Health Systems Departments. The Un'ina Navigator will gather all un'ina demographic information, insurance information, and be responsible for obtaining acceptable proof of eligibility for services at Dena'ina Wellness Center (DWC). The Un'ina Navigator is responsible for conducting Family Health Resource (FHR) screenings for un'ina within the Health Systems Department to determine un'ina eligibility for coverage of services at DWC. The Un'ina Navigator assists with applications for alternate resources to include but not limited to Medicare, Medicaid, and Tribal Sponsored Health Insurance Program (TSHIP). The Un'ina Navigator will proactively reach out to un'ina, adhering to established policies and procedures, to complete alternate resource screenings in a timely manner. The Un'ina Navigator works closely with multiple departments as FHR screenings are a determining factor in the Purchase Referred Care (PRC) process.

Essential Functions

  • Assists un'ina and families with applying and renewing applications for alternate resources to pay for medical care
  • Accurately registers all un'ina into all Health Systems Departments EHRs by collecting un'ina demographic information, insurance information, obtaining acceptable proof of eligibility for services at DWC, and un'ina registration forms
  • Collaborates with the Medical Social Worker Supervisor and Health Systems Manager to evaluate and verify acceptable proof of eligibility for services at DWC
  • Reviews Health Systems providers schedules to complete FHR screenings prior to un'ina appointments to ensure FHR screenings are completed for all un'ina annually Be the point of contact for un'ina and their families, answering questions regarding alternative resources
  • Accurately document all un'ina (patient) screening results and related communication within the un'ina (patient's) Electronic Health Record (EHR) and case management system
  • Works closely with the department to complete FHR screening in a timely manner for un'ina which is required for a PRC eligibility decision
  • Participates in Purchase Referred Care Workgroup on an as needed basis as directed by supervisor
  • Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

Experience

  • One (1) year of experience in a medical office completing patient registration
  • One (1) year of experience working with Medicare, Medicaid, Denali Kid Care
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR)

License/Certification

  • Must have a valid Alaska State driver's license and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy, or obtain within 90 days of hire, or, with approval of the hiring manager, sign a *Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in lieu of having a driver's license to perform the required duties of the position
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, or obtain within 90 days of hire
