Job description

Job Summary: This role is designed to establish a reliable weekend team to support departmental needs and eliminate rotating call schedules. Weekend Standby Registered Nurses will provide coverage from Saturday 7am to Monday 7am, remaining either on standby or working onsite as required.
Program Requirements:
  • The number and skill level of Weekend Standby positions are determined by leadership.
  • Associates commit to a 6-month Weekend Standby status, with options to renew or transition after this period.
  • Weekend Standby shifts run continuously from Saturday morning through Monday morning.
  • In addition to weekend shifts, associates must work a 12-hour weekday shift Tuesday through Friday to meet departmental demands.
  • Failure to fulfill weekday shifts may result in disciplinary action, including termination.
  • Associates are allowed one weekend off per quarter with approved PTO and may request up to one week of PTO per quarter, subject to approval.
  • Illness notifications must be made prior to standby shifts following departmental protocols; failure to report or attend when called in may lead to disciplinary measures.
  • Weekend Standby associates are classified as 0.9 FTE and receive full-time benefits.
Payment Terms: Standby hours are compensated at the minimum base RN rate plus applicable shift premiums. Onsite work after call-in is paid at base rate plus premiums, with eligibility for overtime pay as applicable. Holiday hours worked receive premium pay. Additional hours outside standby status are compensated accordingly.
Holiday Requirements: Associates must cover one observed holiday call annually, with a 4-week notice required if opting out, using PTO for the shift.
Expectations: Associates must be able to report within 45 minutes if called, remain unimpaired by substances, and fulfill holiday call duties.
Education and Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program or, if unaccredited, a minimum of five years acute care nursing experience.
  • BSN preferred or required within five years of hire; MSN enrollment accepted in accelerated programs.
  • Area-specific certifications such as ACLS, BLS, PALS, or specialty credentials to be obtained and maintained.

Licensure
Active Registered Nurse license from the appropriate state board is mandatory.
Work Shift: 4th Shift (overnight weekend coverage)
Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36
