Job description


Position Summary
Plans, develops and manages environmental, health and safety protection programs and practices for the assigned division(s) through teams of Safety employees. Establishes and maintains a safety-driven culture throughout the division(s).
Position Details
  • Directs safety audit and inspection programs to ensure compliance with occupational and Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) requirements for multiple regions or divisions.
  • Develops, implements and maintains employee safety training programs and records; and develops, updates, and manages workplace safety programs, procedures, and policies.
  • Participates in safety strategy development for division and ensures implementation.
  • Directs management of investigation of all accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace and verifies completeness of the necessary documentation.
  • Manages the various jobsites safety programs to ensure proper compliance and to detect deficiencies and monitor corrective actions.
  • Acts as the principal safety resource for the division and also determines the appropriate safety equipment and supplies for various jobsites.
  • Develops and directs department personnel, craft/field personnel and project managers and superintendents when planning certain specialized activities, such as critical crane lifts or confined space entries.
  • Provides performance coaching and feedback for safety employees. Manages annual performance process for safety employees in division.
  • Manages recruitment and hiring process for safety roles in division.
  • Works alongside division leadership to shape and direct the safety program.
  • Participates in the acquisitions and planning of upcoming work.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Health, Environmental Applied Sciences or related discipline.
  • 10-12 years' experience in EH&S, including people management experience
  • Certifications in CPR and First Aid.
  • OSHA 10hr, OSHA 30hr, OSHA 40hr training, preferred.
  • OSHA 500, CHST or ASP certifications preferred.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, ability to effectively convey safety protocol and regulatory requirements across all levels of the organization
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of workplace safety laws, regulations, policies, and best practices, including OSHA, NFPA, EPA and DOT standards.
  • Advanced organizational and analytical skills to organize, prioritize and manage the successful program implementation or project execution within budget and time constraints
  • Solid skills to appropriately and efficiently respond to and direct the response to urgent and critical situations, including follow-up evaluation; recommend, develop, and implement changes as appropriate
  • Ability to promote a proactive safety culture through coaching and resource-based approach
  • Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and health and safety management systems and platforms.
