Job description

Position Description:
The Welding Technician is responsible for safely performing all tasks associated with this position, with supervision and guidance. The Welding Technician I is a crucial position, supporting the welding/fabricating processes and training throughout the business. Seamless interaction with all departments, Vendors, Suppliers and Wabash sites is required. Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism. Above average welding skill, basic Automated Welding and fabrication knowledge are required. Robotic understanding is a plus, depending on site needs. Must be able to complete tasks on time with high quality and with attention to detail. Above average communication and personal interaction skills are required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Below are examples of the type of duties you could be responsible for:
  • Able to perform GMAW welding process on varied base materials at an above average quality level.
  • Perform basic Automated Welding and / or basic Robotic programming and troubleshooting, as required by site.
  • Perform basic level welding machine programming, troubleshooting and repair.
  • Clearly communicate welding expectations and procedures to Production and other Departments.
  • Provide training and mentoring to Wabash employees regarding welding processes and practices.
  • Travel if necessary (Weld Tech. I travel would be mainly for training, exposure and experience purposes).
  • Self-seek education, training opportunities and new technology in the welding field.
  • Collect, analyze, and report on data regarding welding processes and improvements.
  • Learn about developing, testing and documenting new welding processes and procedures (WPS, PQR and all related testing).
  • Complete a monthly Weld Audit schedule and publish results.
  • Accepting of, and participate in, training and learning opportunities.
  • Reports to the Welding Technician Supervisor.

Qualifications:
  • Score of 51 points or higher on Steel Weld Test.
  • Formal welding classes preferred (Voc. School, Tech. College), but not required in lieu of proven tenure and experience in the manufacturing welding field.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Above average reading, writing and verbal communication skills. Bi-lingual is a plus but not required.
  • Automated Welding equipment or Robotic experience is a plus but not required. Can be trained.
  • Basic understanding of Metallurgy.
  • Microsoft Office, GMAW and GMAW-P Welding, Welding Troubleshooting, Data Collection and Problem Solving.
  • This position requires the ability to work on projects both individually and cross functionally.
  • The Welding Technician I must be able to work well with others and seek continuous self-improvement opportunities.
  • The desired candidate will have a minimum of 5 years' experience in welding manufacturing.
  • Excellent attendance history.

Knowledge, Training, Skills and/or Experience:
Welding Technician experience and education are great to come into this position with. However, it's not required, here at Wabash, we give you the training to become comfortable in any Welding Technician position. Upon receiving an offer letter from us, you'll undergo orientation and several days of training, preparing you for the position.

Physical Demands:
As a Welding Technician, you are regularly required to stand, walk, lean, push, climb, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, handle and operate tools or controls for the length of their entire shift. The employee needs full range of motion in their arms and hands in this position. All Welding Technicians must be able to successfully communicate with fellow employees as well. Some Welding Technicians also work in small spaces throughout their shift and frequently lift and/or carry objects up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision acuity and the ability to adjust focus, along with good hand-eye coordination.
