How much do medical robotics engineer jobs pay per year?
What is the difference between Medical Robotics Engineer vs Biomedical Equipment Technician?
| Aspect | Medical Robotics Engineer | Biomedical Equipment Technician |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Bachelor's in engineering, robotics, or related field; certifications like Certified Robotics Engineer | Associate's or bachelor's in biomedical technology; certifications like Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) |
| Work Environment | Design, develop, and test robotic systems in labs or manufacturing settings | Install, maintain, and repair medical equipment in hospitals or clinics |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Medical device companies, research institutions, hospitals | Hospitals, clinics, medical equipment service companies |
While both roles work within the medical technology field, Medical Robotics Engineers focus on designing and developing robotic systems used in healthcare, whereas Biomedical Equipment Technicians maintain and repair existing medical devices. The roles differ in their focus on innovation versus maintenance, but both require technical expertise and certifications relevant to medical technology.

Job description
It started with a simple idea: what if surgery could be less invasive and recovery less painful? Nearly 30 years later, that question still fuels everything we do at Intuitive. As a global leader in robotic-assisted surgery and minimally invasive care, our technologies—like the da Vinci surgical system and Ion—have transformed how care is delivered for millions of patients worldwide.
We’re a team of engineers, clinicians, and innovators united by one purpose: to make surgery smarter, safer, and more human. Every day, our work helps care teams perform with greater precision and patients recover faster, improving outcomes around the world.
The problems we solve demand creativity, rigor, and collaboration. The work is challenging, but deeply meaningful—because every improvement we make has the potential to change a life.
If you’re ready to contribute to something bigger than yourself and help transform the future of healthcare, you’ll find your purpose here.
Job Description** This role may reside in Orange, CT or Sunnyvale, CA**
Primary function of position:
Intuitive Surgical, Inc. produces the da Vinci® Surgical System, a minimally invasive robotic surgery system that uses highly complex mechanics, replaceable instruments and accessories, and enhanced three-dimensional visualization to extend surgical technique and precision beyond the limits of the human hand.
The Principal Mechanical Engineer will strive to create the safest and highest quality devices for minimally invasive surgery though rigorous and robust technical analysis. This role requires strong performance in a fast-paced, high-energy team environment and the ability to learn quickly. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise and hands-on experience with advanced surgical technologies to support development of surgical devices for the da Vinci Surgical.
Job Description:
